Legitimately one of my very favourite of Rui’s lines to Mizuki, it’s so unbelievably sweet in a way I can hardly articulate and I don’t think the TL of the second line quite conveys, but it makes me sobbbb.
“It may be rather difficult for the both of us to continue being the selves we aspire to be. However… you being yourself and persisting in that, is something I think is really nice to see.”
This is of course the Mizuki is Mizuki phrasing, in the context here of Rui just prior calling back to middle school and reflecting how far they’ve come since then. Cause Mizuki wasn’t herself, wasn’t who she wanted to be back then, the time they were on the roof together. But it’s different, better, now, even despite the inherent hardship of persisting in resistance to society that denies them. The two of them being themselves, and the specificity of what Mizuki being herself means, that it’s lovely for her to be……… augh.
