Okay so basically I’ve had really bad brainrot that I’ve been meaning to move from my instagram stories to here where I can be unabashedly insane. I’ve played Okami since I was a kid just like all of you have probably and am currently replaying it as I do every year so…….. yeah! The trailer announcement sparked the idea to plot what will happen in the next game.
What we know pretty much for certain
Amaterasu is confirmed to be the protagonist. Obviously.
With Hideki Kamiya as the director and through interviews, it is a direct sequel of the first game and will either have nothing to do with Okamiden or almost nothing to do with it. Okamiden isn’t considered canon by Kamiya since he didn’t make it and it also contradicts some lore of the first game. I haven’t entirely played it myself because I do not love what it does with the characters and them having kids and all of that shenanigans. But if you liked it, more power to you!
Queen Himiko & Raō will not be returning. They’re dead. Unless in a flashback or as ghosts.
lineart and flats
What’s very likely + theories
Issun will return but in what capacity, I’m not sure. If it’s a direct sequel he will only be a year or so older and will be the companion or (I’m hoping not) there’s a new envoy and he’s a character later in the game— older and maybe set a 100 years in the future to keep with the whole 100 year curse thing.
Waka will return
Susano & Kushi will return, probably married or engaged or even have a kid.
Pretty much all of the Oina will return, definitely Oki though. Maybe some Oina will go South and their tribe will slowly stop isolating themselves? Like make alliances and stuff. Not too sure about that though.
Every NPC with no beef like Mr. & Mrs. Orange, Kokari, Sparrow Clan, Princess Fuse… etc. will probably make a return. Maybe not all but definitely the memorable ones.
Ammy loses her powers again, kinda obvious because the game isn’t going to give the player all the techniques at the beginning
One of the biggest plotholes/storylines that is never is explained is what happened to the Moon Tribe and who they really are. All we know is that Waka and Kaguya are from it. I’m thinking that perhaps the Moon Tribe will be a focus of the next game? Maybe not, but I think if Waka is a central figure of this sequel it will have to be.
Sei-an City successor will be an arc, either the child of Himiko and the Emperor or something related to bureaucratic struggle against the Emperor. The Emperor is pretty much a figurehead in Okami, as it’s shown that Himiko is really the one ruling and it’s mentioned that her family clan has had mystic powers for a very long time and has been allied with Waka for like 200+ years. So I think it make sense if her child is a focal point of an arc as they’d retain these abilities and loyalty to Waka.
Celestial Plain map or rebuilding arc? The way it’s presented in Okami is that the entire plain is in shambles with celestial and the moon tribe wiped out, Gods are reunited though with Ammy (will be separated though definitely for plot reasons), and faith is high.
Not too sure about this but I think Yami will the main adversary this time, Yami’s only mentioned and explained in the last act of the game with Orochi being the main adversary and reason bosses exist. I don’t think they’ll beat a dead horse and make Orochi the main villain again. However, that doesn’t mean I don’t think he’ll return— he could and is likely to!
Lucky Mallet shenanigans + Ponc’tan— it is highly likely they will shrink Ammy down so the player can know what the poncles look like.
We never know what happened to Issun’s parents, while I don’t think we’ll get an answer it’d be fun if we did haha.
Who/What I don’t think will make an appearance
Crimson Helm & Blight I think are the two most stand alone bosses in the sense that there’s no reason to bring them back. They weren’t fun or particularly memorable and I just doesn’t make sense to. Ninetails & the Spider Queen really are interesting designs and characters so I think they could return but not in the capacity they were before.
Lecktu & Nektu for the love of god leave them to die, no reason to dig up their graves this is the worst boss fight in the game.
Pirate Ship map will not return, again it doesn’t make sense to since the water dragon isn’t going to be on the loose again probably.
