A/N: A short scene I wrote to practice for spencersawkward’s writing contest! I’ve never written in second person before now, so I wanted to do a little trial run first :)
For peak ~vibes~, read while listening to Old Cape Cod by Patti Page. That’s what inspired this one, and it’s what I listened to while writing it and let me just say OH BOY you will feel some emotions. I can’t pinpoint what any of those emotions are, but there’s a lot of them! So enjoy lmao
Loosely defined as “being exhausted, but in a good way.” Being exhausted after a day of swimming, relaxing; of enjoying good food and even better company.
That’s how you felt after the first day of your vacation with Spencer.
As you stepped out of the shower, wrapping a towel around yourself, you heard a knock on the bathroom door.
“Can I come in there yet babe? My - well, the sandy salty feeling is kind of getting unbearable to be honest.”
You laughed. “Are you sure it’s not just a ploy to see me naked, Dr. Reid?” You called back through the door.
“I don’t think I need a ploy to get you naked, Y/N,” He joked back. You opened the bathroom door with a wry smile, and pressed a soft kiss to his lips when you saw him standing on the other side.
“You definitely don’t,” You admitted, before switching places with him in the bathroom doorway. “Now go get cleaned up! This bed is too soft not to cuddle in.”
“Whatever you say,” He teased, kissing you again before shutting the bathroom door, leaving you standing there grinning like a maniac.
You truly were head over heels for this man.
Heading over to the closet, you changed into your pajamas before flopping down onto the bed.
Spencer had picked the resort, and you were honestly surprised when he asked if you wanted to go on a beach vacation. He hadn’t really struck you as the beachy type, but he seemed to be really excited when you agreed to the trip, which only made you more excited, of course. The team teased you two for both taking the same week off work, but it was loving. They’d teased you two ever since you told them about your relationship in the first place.
Which is why, when your phone rang, you knew immediately who it had to be.
“Penelope!” You picked up the call with a smile, “How are you?”
“I feel like I should be asking you that, what with the little secret couple’s retreat you and Reid are on,” She joked. You rolled your eyes.
“It’s not a couple’s retreat - we just wanted to get away for the week, that’s all! De-stress a little bit.”
“Mhmm. And by de-stress, you mean… ”
“I mean de-stress, Penelope. Relaxing on the beach, cuddling by the pool, de-stress. I swear, between you and Emily -”
“Oh come on, you love us.”
“You know I do,” You laughed.
“That’s what I like to hear. Now, how are things going with lover boy over there? Is the place nice?”
“Oh my god you’d be amazed, it’s beautiful here. Like, picturesque, really. I don’t know how Spence even found the place - white sand beaches and everything. It’s insane.”
“He might’ve had a little bit of help from your favorite computer goddess over here,” She admitted, and you grinned.
“I figured, given the fact that the boy can barely use google.”
“Someday we’ll teach him.”
“Someday,” You agreed, just as you heard the bathroom door open and saw Spencer step out. “Speak of the devil - I’ve gotta go Pen, Spence just got done in the shower.”
“Tell her I said hi!” He called from the closet across the room.
You relayed the message, saying goodbye to Penelope and hanging up before crossing the room to join Spencer.
“Did you have a nice shower?” You asked, coming up behind him and wrapping your arms around his waist in a hug.
“It was wonderful - did you know that the showerhead they have installed in there has like five different settings? While the massage setting is the most relaxing, the full body setting definitely utilizes the water pressure the best in cleaning… well, your full body, obviously. Honestly though, I was just impressed with how great the water pressure is.”
You laughed, placing a kiss on the back of his neck. “Only you could make talking about water pressure endearing, baby.”
“You - you think that’s endearing?” He asked, turning around with a look of confusion on his face.
“I love when you ramble about things. You get so excited, it’s adorable.” You confessed.
“I thought people hated that?”
“Well, those people aren’t in love with you,” You pulled him in for another kiss, and you felt his lips curve into a smile against your own. Finally, he reluctantly pulled away.
“I’ve gotta get dressed,” He laughed. You took your leave from the closet, plopping back down on the large bed only to have him join you a moment later.
You scooted down on the bed, getting underneath the covers before opening the blanket to him. He smiled, crawling under it with you as you rested your head on his chest. You hummed contentedly, legs tangled together as he ran one hand softly through your hair, the other resting against your back as yours wrapped around his chest, embracing him.
“This place really is lovely, isn’t it?” He said. You lifted up your head, looking around the suite, taking in the beautiful room.
The last rays of the setting sun streamed in through the window, enveloping the two of you in an ethereal glow that made the whole scene look like a pleasant dream. A light summer breeze blew the curtains, and ghosted over your skin as the two of you cuddled together, the silky comforter pulled over top of you. It truly was lovely, and you couldn’t help the soft smile that overtook your face.
“It really is.”
The two of you laid there in silence for a moment, basking in the beauty around you before he leaned down to capture your lips in a gentle kiss. His hands moved to cup your face as he kissed you slowly, both of you relishing in the time you had together.
When you finally broke the kiss, you looked at him, foreheads pressed together, a lovesick look in his bright eyes.
“I am so in love with you,” He finally said. You smiled again, knowing that your eyes were reflecting the same thing you were seeing in his.
“I am so in love with you too, Spencer Reid. Heart-stoppingly in love with you.”
“Hey, your heart can’t stop yet - we’ve still got a week at this resort ahead of us!”
You threw your head back with a laugh, before settling it back against his chest, both of you falling back into your previous position.
There, with his hand in your hair and the ocean breeze against your skin, you fell into a peaceful sleep, a small smile on your face.
