The Day the Dewi-thing Came to Town
Gather, grubs and imagos, and hear my story true
Know the day our kingdom deep did witness something new
Infection breached the Fading Town, the day we’d almost rue
If not for timely action from a higher being’s shoe
I saw it all, I say it now, with Amblypygid eyes
The Little Ghost and Princess did a monster civilise
They brought it here to Hallownest on eve of our demise
To sate inquirous appetite and leverage its size
To call this creature giant is to give mere truth a snub
It’s taller than the cliffside if you’re root-high to a shrub
But listen well, fair audience, for this here is the rub:
This towering colossus be itself nought but a grub!
With legs as thick as towers, they come stomping as a pair
A face that flows like rubber and with breath that heats the air
Its flesh softer than fungus and all forested with hair
Leaking brine and pungent oil, its stench beyond compare
A score of us could fill its maw, that gaping gash so gooey
Entrapped in its saliva there, so sticky, thick, and gluey
The Princess claimed it meant no harm, was surely talking hooey
But here the brute did kneel and bow, and call itself a “Dewi”.
How the spawn of Void and Wyrm could tame a beast so great
Is such a feat beyond compare, I could not explicate
This Dewi-thing so corpulent, no hunger could we sate
Yet followed royal orders as though instinct quite innate
The beast of flesh appeared to seek no prize beyond its sight
Content it was to sit and watch us tremble in our plight
It revelled not in misery, mere presence did delight
And struck a bond of friendship with our treasured Little Knight.
Yet grace and sense were not traits that this creature would imbibe
It scaled the crown of Hallownest where ancient ones inscribed
But footing lost, it broke the shrine of moths’ departed tribe
And cracked the ground and quaked the earth from surface to the Hive
Beneath the feet of Dewi-thing, locale inopportune
Within Forgotten Crossroads lay a great lost black cocoon
Imprisoning the Hollow Knight, a Vessel of Void-hewn
And riddled with infection, though it’s meant to be immune
Its seals released by Little Ghost, and shattered chains by quake
The Vessel, oozing orange goo, was shaken quite awake
It stumbled out of temple black, its prison did it break
Ascending through the Dirt Mouth well to spread infection’s ache
The Little Ghost engaged the Knight, as ever they outbraved
They held their elder sibling back to see the townsfolk saved
The Vessel battled rabidly, by vengeful god enslaved
And sighting shrine in titan’s fist, the plague within enraged
The Vessel made for Dewi-thing, to viciously reprove
Drive nail into giant's flesh and carve a staunchless groove
The flesh beast stood there motionless to spare us all its hooves
So Princess saved the child with her clever countermove
With needle flung into the air, the Knight it wrapped around
In demonstration of her skill, by silver silk was bound
A mighty tug stopped Vessel’s leap, it slammed into the ground
And tangled in her Weaver’s thread, the Hollow Knight was downed
By nail the strand was severed, and then angrily it stood
And made to charge the arrayed bugs, should really have stayed put
As in one brutal moment Hollow’s fight did end for good
When the Dewi-thing had crushed it under one titanic foot.
Then stamped, and stamped, and stamped again, in answer to this scare
The monster treated Hollow Knight to tenderising care
Left crippled by such injuries, the Vessel was yet spared
So brave and noble Little Ghost knew duty lay elsewhere.
They saw the Vessel’s blistered flesh, that pulsed and oozed agleam
They gazed upon its ruined mask, its cracked and riven seam
And knew at once the folly of the King’s pernicious scheme
Then vanished with a spectral flash, into the Realm of Dreams
Now what occurred within that place cannot be ascertained
We only know the purpose that the Hollow Knight was chained
There, purposely possessed, a higher being was restrained
By Vessel’s brutal wounding it no longer was contained
The cysts upon the Hollow Knight did then grotesquely swell
And thence emerged the Radiance from dreaming citadel
The God of Light in vengeance struck to see the Dewi felled
If not for Ghost’s eclipsing blow that sundered their own shell
With daring act of deicide the plague would extirpate
Yet in this shocking victory no soul could celebrate
A noble act of sacrifice we gravely venerate
As remnant shade of Little Ghost was soon to dissipate
Deliverance at such a price was not all as we feared
The Dewi-thing restored their mask before they disappeared
A godly ooze that glistered, end-long broken edge was smeared
And Little Ghost restored to life as two halves were adhered
See, chance would have behemoth bear within its storage space
A mask-restoring magic in the form of clinquant paste
So noting hapless Hollow Knight, its link to Light unlaced
It mended every fissure in a stunning act of grace
Such myth-surpassing fortune to this very day astounds
New hope beyond remembrance was bestowed upon this town
Though cheer was swiftly silenced by an awful screeching sound
And beast of flesh, in swift response, departed homeward bound
Though far beyond believing, all be truth I do avow
That tame and friendly giant does defer to us somehow
Requested right to visit, this the Princess did allow
The Dewi-thing will soon return- oh Wyrm, I hear him now

This is a bug's perspective telling of the first book of Lilybug's comic Dewi's Adventure in Hollow Knight. Why in iambic heptameter monorhyming quatrians? That's just how the first verse materialised.
