Finished late… but the scene didn’t feel real unless I took a picture of it. An old stone convent that locals swear is still haunted by the nuns who took their first and last vows within its walls in the 1800s.

Main entrance hall, former Convent of the Immaculate Conception (1876). Designed by chief Colonial Architect, Edmund Blackett, for the Good Samaritan Sisters, a teaching order who set up a school with a hall for 300 kids with dormitories. Closed as a school and nunnery in 1988, and sold off in three lots. Main building re-sold derelict in 2007 and slowly converted to a super-swanky über-luxe seven bedroom multi-level private residence - fuck me dead - it's got the lot, vaulted ceilings with complete fit-out including a 600 bottle wine cellar. On a big block of land, easily sold last year above its $A12M reserve price, and would be worth way more now. Filthy rich mentality on a stick. Balmain.

Abandoned convent (1917). Closed in 1986 and then became an old folks home until standard of care was found to be sub-standard, now derelict. Back in 1946, a Firefly fighter aircraft crashed behind here, killing three people on the ground. Lewisham.

"Bethungra" (1896). Large late Victorian-era house with neat masonry of the now rare Sydney Sandstone. Used as a convent from 1901-1909 by Mary MacKillop (now a Catholic saint) for her Sisters of St. Joseph. Original slate roof replaced by tiles. Tasteful addition of a 1960's-era concrete star-block fence out the front. Now a private residence. Canterbury.
