Bare branches in spring

With these old and sadly dying oak trees, the bare branches will still be bare in the summer. Some parts of these trees are still hanging on in there and will come into leaf as the year progresses but, there's only one direction of travel. As there is for all of us. Followers of my photography will be aware that I have a bit of a 'thing' about dying and dead trees. I suppose it's because that at my point in life, I'm more sensitive to reminders of mortality…

Martin Luther King Day 2022 Highlights

Not even snow could keep us from commemorating the legacy of Dr. King in person. There were in-person and virtual MLK Day events around town. There were marches in Linden and Downtown Columbus. And we went to the longest-running MLK commemoration in Columbus, MLK Day at HRSJ (The Community of Holy Rosary-St. John Parish in the Old Oaks neighborhood of South Columbus, which featured the combined HRSJ & St. Dominic Choirs, the two African-American Parishes in Columbus.), which has celebrated Martin Luther King Jr. Day since 1986.

Other events included the King Arts Complex MLK Day Open House, which moved to the Ohio History Connection this year, the aforementioned MLK Day March hosted by "We Are Linden" down Cleveland Avenue in South Linden, and Virtual MLK Day Events hosted by the City of Worthington, the City of Westerville, Capital University, and Otterbein University, and the Virtual MLK Day Breakfast with Ohio State President Dr. Kristina Johnson as the Keynote Speaker.

Old oaks hanging on in there…

They're only just about hanging on in there though. They've both seen better days, as have a lot of us to be honest. Which given my almost three score years and ten on the planet and experiencing a certain amount of decrepitude, probably explains why I'm always drawn to these trees as a subject for my photography…
