What can they be found doing at the tiefling/goblin party?

Is your Tav a romanceable character?  Are there any specific requirements to romancing them? Does your Tav need to be flirted with to start the romance, or will they approach the PC themselves if approval is high enough?

What do they say if the PC tries to force them to go up on stage with Dribbles the Clown?

What can they be found doing at the tiefling/goblin party?

Trying to sleep with Zevlor. If Volo is at that party he's drinking with Volo. They're getting louder and louder yes-anding each other's melodramatic recounting of the day's events. When Alfira asks the player character what her angle should be re: the song she's writing about them Volo and Merryn are talking animatedly in the background and when you talk to them Merryn reacts to and judges whatever you answered Alfira.

But to be serious about Zevlor I think Merryn, despite being a drow, really deeply empathizes with the plight of the tieflings, who can never go home again, and Zevlor specifically who is trying to hold everything together and seems to be constantly feeling like he's failing at that and I think just as the player character says to Wyll and Halsin hey you should come join the party (with possible subtext being because I'm into you and I don't like to see you standing off by yourself) Merryn feels the same way about Zevlor.

Is your Tav a romanceable character? Are there any specific requirements to romancing them? Does your Tav need to be flirted with to start the romance, or will they approach the PC themselves if approval is high enough?

I think if he is romanceable the start of it is triggered by gaining an inspiration point specific to his entertainer background: either playing music with Alfira at the grove party or successfully reciting your way through the poetry options Bernard gives you in the underdark wizard tower.

If the former, I think he can be approached the night of the party and your conversation will be about like... unexpected heroism and goodness coming from places people don't often think to look. If Merryn is in fact spending the evening hitting on Zevlor you can comment on that and he'll try to defend himself by being like well, why not, he's attractive and he seems like he needs to unwind a little, because I think it would be fun if you can get the initial impression that here is yet another horny bard only to learn as time goes on that that is not Merryn's angle. He will not kiss you here unless you kiss him first and you can sleep with him or not but he'll be standoffish the next day if you do. Despite that he'll tell you more about himself after this, although he's unusually reserved in his private life For A Bard.

if the latter you'll get a scene the next time you make camp in the underdark where he's up after the others have gone to sleep, just holding his violin and staring into the fire. He'll talk about the automaton's "there is a light in every living thing / it's crawling towards the surface to survive" and give you additional context for the work it comes from. You can ask if he wrote it-- he didn't but he'll tell you about things he has written, songs about finding beauty in the dark, about missing something that no longer exists or maybe never did, about lost love. He'll tell you this is the first time he's been back to the underdark since he ran away from home several centuries ago. You can ask if he was afraid to come back and he responds that he was afraid it would be hard to leave again. Despite the fact he could never really belong in Menzoberranzan, the underdark is still home to him even after so many years.

Alternatively, if you already got the former scene at the tiefling party, he'll tell you all of the above and then at the end start to play his violin quietly, singing a song you recognize as being about the drow hero Drizzt Do'Urden-- this is another Merryn original and he claims Drizzt is, too. You can express disbelief or annoyance that he would claim to have invented Drizzt, he's a real person, surely, to which Merryn will respond that there are no perfect heroes in the real world.

What do they say if the PC tries to force them to go up on stage with Dribbles the Clown?

Ok hi, here's Matthias. He's a shadow monk, casts Thaumaturgy on accident whenever he's experiencing a large amount of embarrassment or stress and casts Darkness / Greater Invisibility on purpose to get out of social situations he doesn't feel like being in anymore.

Okay number one is obviously Nyx because she and Matthias just have such a funny dynamic I feel like we've already established. So I'm not gonna ramble on that

Other than Nyx I really do think Freyr would like Matthias a lot. Freyr is absolutely my golden child but they still do questionable things (like date a vampire as a paladin of lathander) all the time. So another odd sort of duo but I think Freyr would genuinely really like Matthias and would like to just sort of exist in his space. Freyr doesn't tend to meet a lot of people like Matthias and they're very curious about things they don't really know and so they'd want to get close to Matthias while also doing their best to not be overwhelming. Plus Freyr is one of my social butterflies so they can handle all of the social situations that Matthias doesn't want to deal with anymore

8. Did your Tav have any romantic and/or sexual relationships prior to the illithid adventure? If yes, who was it with and what was it like? If no, how did they feel about being single?

Darcy had no romantic relationships prior, but she did have to ‘sell herself’ while she was living on the streets of Baldur’s Gate. There were certain clients that may have met with her a handful of times, but other than that, her focus was solely on survival.

Divya, on the other hand, had neither. Maybe a boyfriend or two when she was a teen, but after she joined the Temple of Ilmater in Elturel, she had taken a vow of celibacy. She was more than happy being single, devoting her time to the Temple and her worship.

12. What opinion does your Tav have about the Gods?

What’s Wyll’s line about the Gods? “The only thing a God’s ever given me is a cold shoulder?” Yeah, Darcy would agree 100%.

Of course, Divya is loyal to her god Ilmater. She was raised in the church and encouraged by her family to become a monk and to spend her days in the temple. She spent her years healing the sick, giving comfort to those who were dying, and also gave counseling under his name.

However, after being kicked out of the Temple after the fall of Elturel, as well as being rejected from the Temple in Baldur’s Gate, she began to see the corruption in the church itself and (I haven’t decided if she will keep her faith or not! the drama‼️)

I’m curious: what would Freyr’s thoughts be if my tiefling tav Matthias dropped a knowledge bomb on them like: “haha hey, do you think Lathander could love me; the demon son of a mother who followed, prayed and lived in Lathander’s name all her life before contracting with a demon so that I could be born? I know she like, broke her oath and shit to do all that in order for me to exist, but do you think I’VE still got a foot in the door with the Funny Sunny Bunny?”

First things first this is a wonderful ask to wake up to and thank you sm for sending it

Freyr’s initial reaction is totally jaw dropped, buffering as they try to process (they had to do the same thing with Astarion)

It’s followed by pretty immediate reassurance. An I don’t see why not (an internal “I will fucking right Lathander for you if not”), something about how our parents actions aren’t our own and even so perhaps there was something more admirable about a mother willing to break her oath to devote herself to her child. A definite offer to pray together or if Matthias wasn’t comfortable with that an offer to pray to Lathander for him. And as Freyr does with all things he loves and he wishes to protect but he isn’t quite certain Lathander will approve of, a vow to stand by their side and defend them. “I stand as Lathander’s sword and shield, and now I am yours.”

Someone’s background being questionable has rarely stopped Freyr from seeking to protect them and in turn seeking protection and approval from the Morninglord for both themself and whoever they’re looking out for, and Matthias definitely wouldn’t be any different.

Tav meme - Is there a companion they would sleep with but not want to date and why?

This is silly but the first time I ever got to the grove party I didn't pick up on the fact that everyone you were talking to wanted to have sex that night, I assumed Astarion snobbishly turning me down was him being uniquely horny and rude about it (and honestly to this day I still kind of prefer that reaction to the chain of events that follow if you do have high enough approval to sleep with him, it feels more authentic to me probably because that was the first version of that conversation I saw). Anyway because of this I got pretty far into Shadowheart's conversation that night before realizing ah, this is the beginning of a romance, which I am not actually interested in pursuing. I've started over a bunch of times but in my mind it's still Merryn canon that he and Shadowheart slept together the night of the grove party and then had an awkward "last night was fun but I don't see it happening again" conversation the next morning.
