Forgive me, friend, for taking so long on this one. But better late than never, perhaps? :)

An earlier work of mine, for Yuletide 2010. One of the things that had kept me going, in that year, which was a rather terrible one for me, were the Vorkosigan books and fanfic that I'd discovered. While I've only written one other VK story, all of what I've read from Bujold has this... emotional, character resonance with me. Her people and cultures feel real.
In this, I took what little we're given of Cetagandan culture and extrapolated, a bit, to look at Dag Benin, a minor Canon character, from a different direction.

This 2012 work was written in the wake of seeing The Avengers (2012) in theaters (three times total, at least once with this forming in my head, scribbled note on a yellow, top-bound l notepad on a road trip with Bestie Amy to see mutual Fandom friend in Ohio) and being active in the tumblr Animorphs Fandom at the time.
In which Clint Barton was once called Tobias, and 'Hawkeye' means more than most know.
While this spawned an unfinished series, it was written to stand alone, and does.

If I specialize in anything, in fandom, it is crossover fic. This one is another Vorkosigan Fandom work, fused with the worldbuilding of Diane Duane's Young Wizard's series.
One of the things I'm endlessly fascinated by, in crossovers, is different ways to mesh canonical "rules" while keeping... true. To the works. To the characters. Hang that dress off a different mannequin, and how does it's shape change? Add that bit of embroidery, how does it stay the same?
In this work, the Powers That Be take a risk, for Barrayar. "That place always works best when a wizard's running it" and all.

Another crossover, and one of two works on this list that made it in from the past year's efforts. Another crossover with Young Wizards, as well - this time including some nice character cameos from that Canon. But last summer, ish - well. Okay, there's some evidence that it started in Fall, 2001 for me - but I slowly have fallen into Batman / Batfamily Fandom, with some extra DCU reading for flavor.
(Blame Danny Phantom, for this one. If your on my blog already, you probably know why.)
Anyway, while gorging on some absolutely gorgeous Batfam fic, learning the basic Canon beats as I went as well as embracing that, yeah, DC really *does* stand for Disregard Canon, and falling back in love with Bruce Wayne as a character -
And you must understand, here, that I was a 90s kid. I haven't seen a proper episode in, oh decades now, but... my Bruce Wayne, my Batman, will always be BTAS Batman. Abusive versions of the character need not apply.
Well. Last October, in what can only be described as a fit of inspiration, I wrote this fic in two frantic days. In which Bruce Wayne is a Wizard, Oath and all, and still Batman. And how that works.
And wizardry, though exciting and interesting, is no glamorous business—especially in most of today’s cultures, where most wizards must work quietly so as not to attract undue attention. - So You Want to be A Wizard

I honestly think this is, hands down, the best thing I've ever written.
Premeditation was... well. I'm neck deep, these days, in the delightfully feral world of Danny Phandom x DCU crossovers - which tend to focus on the Batfamily, as does this work. And while I've been dipping my toe in those waters more and more for a bit - some currently unfinished multichapter works, rabidly inhaling new fic in this space, betaing for newer Fandom friends - this one. This one took some work.
I asked a question many others before me have asked - "Why the hell, in universe, is the fucking Joker still alive?" - and came at, ah? A unique answer. (The Doylist explanation of course, is that the villain is popular and has plot armor. But I've found any Watsonian explanation to be... hm. Personally unsatisfying, at best.)
And then I let the problem of the Joker be permanently solved - yes. I killed him, on screen in this fic.
it was very, very much not an accident on anyone's part, either.
The Danny Phantom elements are pretty heavily featured here, even if the location (Gotham) and plot (killing the Joker) of this story are DC based. We work from Jazz Fenton's POV in this fic, with the background orchestra of the Phandom Lore that's simmered like a well-seasoned marsala for the years and years since Danny Phantom as a series ended adding its flavors. I don't shy away from it here - the Danny Phantom Fandom has something special in its communal lore, and I've embraced it.
I am continuing this one as a series - the first chapter of its concurrent/sequel was posted Friday - but it will absolutely hold as a stand alone work.
There, I made it - top five. Enjoy, my friends.
