        If someone were to ask later, Cedric would say that he doesn't remember thirty minutes before or thirty minutes after Pettigrew killed him.                              (It would be a lie, because he clearly remembers the searing                                                                             pain, the flash of lights, the voices, Harry's scream--)

        Pretending not to remember is so much easier than having to admit that every night he had nightmares.

        He does, however, remember nothing of the trip to St. Mungos -- nothing of the surgery and nothing of the three weeks afterwards. His first memory after waking up is just that -- waking up. He knows that's the ceiling above him, he knows he's in a rather comfortable hospital bed, and he knows someone else is in the room--                          but he just can't bring himself to turn his head to look.
