What do you think Rand is going to decide up on the Dragonmount of Olives?
I feel like I’m missing a reference here...
Regardless, I feel like, barring the entire mood and genre and promises of this series, there’s no real way this doesn’t end with a major realisation of some sort. No way it doesn’t end with Rand remembering laughter and tears and purpose.
That’s not to say it isn’t built up well, or that it doesn’t carry the appropriate weight of a character’s agony and pain and darkest hours, because all of that rings absolutely true. But this isn’t the sort of series where Rand finally, finally, returns to the place that is both ending and beginning, and sits down to think...and then goes and commits genocide by balefire anyway. This isn’t even the sort of series, I don’t think, where the protagonist drags himself broken and bleeding inside and out to an ending he can barely remember the reason for and no longer cares about except that it is his duty.
This is the sort of series where intent and identity and purpose matter. Where strength comes from bonds of love and family and friendship and from hope and determination, rather than from pain, even if pain is part of the journey.
There are series out there where a the protagonist turning themselves steadily into ice or stone, into something unfeeling and ruthless, is necessary for the story being told. Those stories can be satisfying, but I don’t think Wheel of Time is one of those stories.
So whatever is coming next...I doubt I’ll be truly surprised, but I’ve said before that I don’t think that being able to anticipate what’s coming takes away from those moments, if they’re executed well. There’s been so much buildup to this; it feels like what so much of his arc has been aiming for, that even though I have some fairly clear sense of what’s likely to come of it, I’m still on the edge of my seat waiting to watch it actually play out.
Here it is! the ref sheet for Alice :3 Been delaying this for too long but its finally here.
I had a dream...
...that Rhett was cooking tortilla stacks for Link. I don't even know exactly what those are, but, in my mind, they were like pancakes made of Mexican food.
all the foods! although a whole cheese wheel might be a bit too much.
