Is it possible to shed 3 minutes off of a 3 mile race before the 2015 xc season starts? If so how? (My season starts around September)
It depends on what your time is now. If you have never run before and are just starting out, it’s surely more possible than if you’ve been running already for a couple years or even just a year.
The summer before I started XC, I had never run before and ran a 24:24 in a 5k. After my first season, I ran a 21:18. So it is possible. The next year I was low 18s, then 17:35.
How? Run! Start running a realistic amount, and then very gradually build up and run more. Make sure you are slow and gradual with your progression. When XC season comes around, put 100% effort into it. Do all the warmups, all the stretches, and give your all in every workout. When it’s time to recover or run easy, run easy. But when it’s time to run hard, run hard! Listen to your coach and be a part of the team.
Happy running!
