Run happy 😊
OK S'CUTE IT HURTS
Hey runners (and walkers)! Thought this might be helpful :)
Huh cool!
Highschool starts pretty soon and I'm starting cross country as a freshmen. I've been running this whole summer (I even ran a mud run and doing a 10k soon) but I'm really worried about the whole running every day and how it's gonna effect my body like my my feet, knees, ankles, etc...
Don’t worry about that! Your coach will provide you with a training plan that works for your experience and skill level, so don’t sweat it. That being said, it will take some getting used to running that much, but it seems like you’ve been preparing very well by running all summer!
Don’t worry about it and just keep running! Listen to your coach, and I’m sure he/she will guide you well.
Happy running!

I scrolled down a bit and saw a lot of should I join Xc messages and I agree with you, it's the best. The most supportive wonderful sport you could ever do. In other news my PR last season was 27:42 so my goal this year is 26.
I totally agree!!! It is the absolute best and will change your life. That’s a great goal! Work hard and I’m sure you will get it.
Happy running!

P.S. I LOOOOVE taylor swift. I’m unhealthily obsessed with her. If you haven’t watched “Journey to Fearless” you really should. It’s on YouTube.
What shoes do you recommend for cross country?
For training shoes, I HIGHLY recommend you go to a local, specialized running store that will do a gait analysis and help you find the right shoe for you. It’s really important to get the right shoe, otherwise it can cause injuries.
For spikes, just try on XC spikes and see whatever feels the best.
Happy running!

Hi! I'm an upcoming freshmen. Throughout middle school, I did soccer and track. After track season this year, I discovered my love for distance running and felt the urge to join cross country. Long story short, I will be doing soccer, cross country, and track this school year. So, do you have any tips for me, as a first time cross country runner?
My first tip would be to quit soccer :P No I’m just kidding. But, know that at some point you may have to choose between running and soccer (perhaps when you go to college or even before then). At that point, do whatever you have the most potential in. If you’re a better runner, run. If you’re a better soccer player, do it.
In terms of technical stuff, prepare yourself for this season by running now this summer! The most important 3 words in cross country are June, July, and August. That’s where the foundation is laid. For now, just go out there and run a realistic amount and distance. Progress and raise your mileage and sitacne gradually and slowly so you don’t get injured. Make sure you have good shoes too! Go to a specialty running store if you haven’t already, get fitted, and get some good shoe if you can.
My other tip: it will be hard. It won’t just be hard to complete things, but it will be hard to give your full, 100% effort some days. Running long distances is hard, but it is so so rewarding. The bonding you achieve with your team is immeasurable. The challenges you will undergo yourself is indescribable. Do your best to have a positive, passionate perspective each and every day. Look at everything like an opportunity to better yourself, but don’t forget to have fun, be with friends, and enjoy the ride. Listen to your coach. Wether you like it or not, he/she is your coach. Follow them to the ends of the earth and let them know you want to be pushed and be the best you can be. The best they can make you.
Happy running!

Hi!, well I feel kind of weird even asking but since I'm a total beginner at running and or cross country, I wanted a bit insight on what it's about, I'm interested in trying out for my school in August, which gives me a month to prepare, is it possible for me to fit the requirements for cross country by August?, sorry, long question, and thank you!
I’d imagine most schools don’t have have requirements to be on the cross country team. It’s a pretty inclusive sport. To best prepare yourself, however, I would start to run a little bit just to make the transition to the team a bit easier.
Basically, you run throughout the week based on what your coach tells you to do. You compete at races (most likely 5k/3.1 miles long). You do some distance runs, some workouts (like 3xmile, 5x1k, 1 minute hard with 1 minute easy, etc.). The best part is the team aspect. Every day you are running with your friends, people that will become your best friends. You race with them. You travel with them. All the while you are challenging yourself and being the best you can be. Join cross country and you will never regret it!
Happy running!

P.S. You will regret it while yelling at yourself during a hard workout. But you will love it :)
Is it possible to shed 3 minutes off of a 3 mile race before the 2015 xc season starts? If so how? (My season starts around September)
It depends on what your time is now. If you have never run before and are just starting out, it’s surely more possible than if you’ve been running already for a couple years or even just a year.
The summer before I started XC, I had never run before and ran a 24:24 in a 5k. After my first season, I ran a 21:18. So it is possible. The next year I was low 18s, then 17:35.
How? Run! Start running a realistic amount, and then very gradually build up and run more. Make sure you are slow and gradual with your progression. When XC season comes around, put 100% effort into it. Do all the warmups, all the stretches, and give your all in every workout. When it’s time to recover or run easy, run easy. But when it’s time to run hard, run hard! Listen to your coach and be a part of the team.
Happy running!

Hi! I'm going to be a Sophomore in high school this year, and I want to do cross country. I have been running 10 miles a week for like three weeks and I feel ready to bump it up to like 15 and maybe even 20 in a few months. Can I join the team this fall? My school does workouts in the summer, which I'll do too ( as well as personal runs). What else should I do to prepare? Thank you so much.
YES. Join! You’re honestly doing much more than most people do before they join XC. And yes, I would continue to safely bump it up. Maybe first to 15 for a couple weeks, then to 20. Don’t raise it too quickly though due to risk of injury.
Nothing else to prepare. Just make sure you have comfortable clothes and good running shoes (recommended by a specialty running store) before starting. You’ll do great, have fun, meet friends, improve yourself, and be awesome!
Happy running :)
-RunningIsLife
So, I'm thinking about joining the cross country team at my school, but my mile times range from 8-9min, which is pretty slow. I don't know if it's possible to get it down to 6 or 7 min, if I work my butt off this summer I could probably do it! I'm also worried about being the last one on the team to finish, and then have people judging me. What do you think should I join the team? Or not? (No hurt feelings) ❤️
JOIN THE TEAM! For high school, there’s usually no requirements as to how fast you need to be. And I can bet you won’t be the slowest. And if you are? Who cares! You do you and run your own race. If you’re giving it your all, you deserve all the credit in the world despite how fast you are.
And you will DEFINITELY get faster. However, give it time. Don’t come in with expectations of running 6 or 7 minute miles after one summer or even a year of training, because that much improvement is not likely that quickly. However, make realistic and challenging goals.
But most of all, have fun and get the most out of it you can. Give it your all, make friends, create memories, share experiences, and improve yourself!
Good luck and keep running!

"How much do you want it?"
My brother’s voice was low and quiet, but cut through the cheering crowd right to my heart. It was exactly what I needed to hear. I picked my eyes up from the ground, and ran with every ounce of passion I had.
I ran.
