in little women amy is a painter and artist and is frequently treated as childish and painfully young in her ambition. she is forced to grow up and her family needs her to marry rich due to her three older sisters not complying. “you will marry rich.” you will conform. you’re a woman, do what you’re supposed to do.
in little women laurie is so incredibly caught up in his feelings for jo that he ignores any possibility of loving anyone else, let alone amy. jo is the first girl he really meets and talks with. he connects with her first. but later, he says to jo “ive always loved you. but the love i feel for amy is different.” he then asks her “can we still be friends?” she grabs his hand and says “of course.”
in little women amy is considering quitting art because she wants to be great at it, not just average. laurie says “paint me.” they frequently communicate through art. laurie tries to confess to amy using her art, the same way amy tries to confess through hers.
