#FunFact alert! The five toothy plates in the mouth of an urchin is called an Aristotle's lantern. Bristling purple urchins are some of the animals you can see roaming about the Olympic Coast Sanctuary exhibit here at the New England Aquarium. Of course by roam we mean inch along, using their tube feet to pull themselves across the rock or glass. It's when they creep along the glass that you can get a good look at that fancy-sounding Aristotle's lantern.

Dangerously low oxygen levels are killing Dungeness crabs off the Pacific Northwest Coast, including NOAA Olympic Coast National Marine Sanctuary. Scientists are undertaking a collaborative project to understand the impacts and relationships of the multiple stressors involved in order to shape the future of ocean science and fisheries management in the region.
