This one's a bit harder, but a command is a command, and he approaches Kaito casually, trying not too act as nervous as he felt. Before he even says anything, he wraps his arms around him - resisting the urge to bury his face in Kaito's hair or cling to the back of his shirt or anything of the sort - before stepping back quickly. "Happy unbirthday, Kaito-kun!" A flimsy excuse before he all but runs off.
Y’know, when this universe was defined by their little tightrope act with their relationship on the line, he’s unsure how he should even act when you come near– how did you want him to act? Distant, like you? Like normal? Perhaps hug you tight like the world was ending, gravity faltering, you being the only breath he had left as the ground broke around them– It is cold here at the end of all ages, and Kaito quietly grumbled to himself as he pushed down the chill that sat in his bones. You’re warm, warm, and he only lets go reluctantly, trying to hold you close a second longer, hand slipping down your arm as you moved away. Lingering.
Then catching himself, and laughing.
“Thanks, Hakuba-kun!” Waving, shouting after you, bright laughter falling from his mouth more automatic, more played to the tune of “Socially adept, this is show biz, everything is fine” than genuine–
With how you all but ran away?
It’s an unbirthday, alright.
