there are no words in the english language for how badly i needed ofmd in my life. i literally watched it for the first time THIS MONTH (nov 2022) like i KNEW it was the gay pirate show but i was still so absolutely SHOCKED by just how gay it was

like the first thing ed does is save stedes life and then tend to him on his sickbed and like gently nurse him while he sleeps and then stede wakes up and they're just like immediately CLOTHES SWAP and Longing Glances

i knew it would be gay but i was so shocked by how intensely, immediately, unapologetically and obviously gay it really was

and it's this story about these two people who are struggling so hard to believe that life is worth living and that there's a place for them in this broken world and then they meet each other and in doing so find exactly the hope that they needed. and i just. watching it unfold gave me that hope too??? like here i am just this depressed little queer going through a really painful breakup and feeling basically the same apathy towards life that they both do at the beginning of the show and then THIS FUCKING SHOW comes along and tells me exactly what i needed to hear

like not just the beautiful love story itself but the existence of it in a meta sense like in a world of shows having to suppress and hint at and side character their queer storylines or like when they do tell unambiguously gay stories the creators know there's gonna be a shorter lifespan for the show (thinking of toh </3) here came this RIDICULOUS and SILLY and FLAMBOYANT comedy where the real inciting incident is Gay Love at First Sight for Two People Who had No Reason to Even Believe in Love Anymore

and that it's so clearly implied that it's not just their Queerness that has made them feel othered but also that they are both neurodivergent like i never knew it would be possible to feel myself so well represented in two middle aged men???

plus like. i want to work in television like here i am a few months out from graduating film school standing around at my stupid retail job 8 hours a day wondering if i made a mistake and if anything i want to do even matters or if i'll ever be given a chance to tell the stories i want to tell in a world that seems so unfriendly to people like me and the people i care about. and then BOOM it's GAY and it EXISTS and it's POPULAR and it gave me and so many other people Hope. it came out here and it said YES these stories WILL be told and stories CAN make a difference in people's lives and you CAN still find community through media and shared interests. You are NOT silly or naive for pursuing your dreams.
