#omgcp negative

So I know you’re no longer in check please fandom, but I was wondering if I could ask your opinion on something as the only blog I still follow that was ever in it. (If not, feel free to ignore! I know some people don’t like talking about former fandoms.)

I never read the fourth year, and having recently fallen back in love with Kent Parson and kind of creeping back into the fandom, I was considering whether or not I should. I understand that it was pretty unsatisfying for Kent fans. Did you personally find anything worthwhile in the 4th year, or if you had the choice to do it over would you have just quit reading after the 3rd?

Hmm, to be honest I only kind of read the 4th year myself? At a certain point I realized that I was just gonna feel annoyed by most of it and decided not to do that to myself, lol. Idk, I could rant at-length about certain storytelling and characterization decisions that I just. Did not vibe with at all. But I do think that like, watching all the drama play out while waiting for the end of the comic made me have much stronger negative feelings about it than like, if I were to read it all after the fact for the first time? 

I think like, if I could actually change things it would have been to... expect less for Parse/expect him to play a very minor role and just know that going in. Because a lot of the bitterness comes from knowing how and why his entire arc got essentially deleted. I think like, it’s a fine ending to a story that ended up having different themes than the ones I had hoped for, personally, and in theory it’s possible to just read it and enjoy it!

anyway so like. I am a big fan of death of the author in almost every respect. however, i do also think there’s an important inverse of this which is that when you create something, you need to own its impact. because we don’t create in a vacuum and we don’t create free of our own implicit biases. 

so like, when you create something morally gray, or that a lot of people are telling you has been coded with certain themes/identities in it, maybe it’s time to consider what impact your creation ended up having, whether or not that’s what your intention was. because when you badmouth something you made that people are telling you made them feel seen and safe, or you praise something you made that people are telling you made them feel hurt and worse than how you found them, real life people hear that. and real life people are more important than the thing you intended to create.

i totally understand your grumpy omgcp feelings and i'm disappointed as well. just wanted to pop in and say that you are still my favorite omgcp author and i go back to your fics once in a while because they make me so happy. so thanks for being around and i may just have to watch the witcher so i can keep reading what you write

Aww, thank you ❤️ you know, when I started out writing omgcp fic, it was always with sort of an Agenda to explore Kenny's character in a way that was,,,kinder and more nuanced that a large part of fandom gave him credit for. At the time I thought canon was going to agree with me (besides the slash element; I was fairly confident this comic was not going in a polya direction OR breaking up Zimbits). (Anyone else remember, "Who is Parse?" "Probably one of my favorite characters.")

In retrospect, yikes was I wrong. But I'm still proud of the fic I wrote, perhaps even moreso now? And I'm really glad that my fics still make at least one person happy ❤️ I think they still do what I wanted them to do when I wrote them, even if I'm bitter about canon lol.

As for The Witcher: YES JOIN USSSSS. I'm assuming you've seen posts about it, but I do wanna throw out content warnings for gore/violence especially. Also, imo the first episode was the hardest to get through and it became less depressing after that, lol.

Also if you like bittyparse I recommend my Dan/Lucifer fics because I feel like they have similar vibes and also Lucifer is the perfect show and maybe I should make a primer

seconding the other check please anon !! i've kinda been halfheartedly following the comic for the last few years but your parse fics are genuinely some of the best i've ever read in any fandom and i've followed u to lucifer and the witcher almost entirely so i can keep reading your writing. i still re-read a lot of your check please fics despite not being interested in the fandom anymore cause theyre So good as stories in their own right

YALL 😭 I'm literally so flattered you followed me into new fandoms haha, I hope you've been enjoying them!! Both these shows are so good and deserve more fans ❤️ and I'm so glad people still enjoy my omgcp fics! They'll always be special to me as the first fandom I published for ❤️

different anon but i just found out omgcp is ending (?) and i stopped reading in yr 2 and since then only consumed fic so my takes on the characters comes entirely from fandom which is how i ended up obsessed w a rarepair bc of your writing lol and i have no idea whats happened only that people are saying its gone off the tracks in a bad way & so i will b clinging to my fanon kent & bittyparse thank u for enabling me. also i followed u into the witcher and its consumed my life lol luv it

Ahh yeah it is ending! I haven't read anything that's come out this week but I kept following it until now, and I just feel too grumpy to engage w it rn and I try to avoid seeking out things to be grumpy about haha, so idk for sure the details of how it's ending but I've been bitter since like mid-y3, and haven't liked what I've heard about these final comics at ALL so I feel ya.

But long live our rarepairs!! And I'm so happy you followed me into The Witcher! Soo many fun ships to play with and I feel like yennskier has some excellent bittyparse vibes 👀 so I may try my hand at some of that after a few other projects I have planned haha

I - Has Tumblr caused you to stop liking any fandoms, if so, which and why? ...I think blaming Tumblr for my messy breakup with OMGCP doesn’t give enough credit to certain issues I took with the latter half of the plot and meta commentary by the creator, but being sick of the Parse discourse sure didn’t help lol

D - A pairing you wish you liked but just can’t. I totally get what people love about Calanthe/Eist, and I feel like I’m almost into it but I’m not.

C - A ship you have never liked and probably never will. Lucifer/Ellla, sorry :( Lucifer & Ella is great! Also, you know this but Jeff/Annie from Community. Ugh.
