I hope this is an okay submission! My new little tank for a marimo moss ball (no fish). Google wouldn't tell me if the shells and stones were okay as substrate, so I'd love any feedback!

Cute! I believe naturally collected shells and stones are supposed to be avoided for fish, just because of minerals, etc. they could release into the water. But I don’t know if that applies to moss balls... Sorry I’m not much help! 

But maybe someone else will have a good answer for you :)

Is there a respectful way to dissuade a young white man from voting Conservative, or do I have to duel him in a parking lot? (Asking, unfortunately, for a real-life coworker.)

If I knew what reasons he was thinking of voting Conservatives, perhaps I could offer a counter-argument. Hard to come up with a universal solution based on something this vague, though.

Amy - @ominouspotato Starting with you because you sent me this. I love you soooo much. I love that you check in on me when I’m on my bullshit. I love that I can always trust you to be honest with me. I love that you are the most fucking goddamn hilarious person I know. You’re never worried about giving your all and putting yourself out there (I mean, you probably are sometimes because everyone is but you always seem so confident). You are literally so smart but you never make anyone around you feel dumb. You are a wonderful, caring, smart, outgoing, gem of human being.

Gwen - @ghirahims-left-shoe You are my oldest friend whom I would still consider myself close to. I think I am the luckiest person ever to have met you on the first day of high school. You are the person who will always do outrageous stuff with me but still keep it chill. I love all the stuff we do together like starting a band, starting a podcast, driving 7 hours to see the fucking vampire town. I love that you aren’t afraid to just go for the things you want without worrying about what other people will think if it doesn’t work out. I love that you are happy with the person you are because the person you are is amazing. You are an adventurous, confident, unflappable, human being of a best friend.

I don’t want to write about anyone else specifically because you two are the only people I’m not living with or related to that I talk to on a regular basis. As a general thing though I really wanna say I love everyone who has checked in on me over the last year as I’ve been going through (and am still going through) some heavy stuff. I love the support and love I have gotten from the people I’ve come out to about my name and pronouns. I know it’s something I’ve always lowkey been kinda public about but this was the first year I started actively telling people about it and asking people to change the way they refer to me and I am so grateful for the people who have been respectful and seamlessly changed their language without fuss. I’m just really glad I know wonderful people and when I think about some of the people I wasn’t sure what kind of reaction to expect who have been the most supportive I actually cry. So if you’re any of those people (and I am sure you will know if you are) just know I am thinking about you writing this post and I love you so much.

Sorry to hear about your cat. I have two elderly cats as well (just turned 19) and I'm terrified of when that day finally arrives. If you want to share cat pictures or anything, let me know. There are some pet portrait artists on Etsy.

I have been following @amazingpetenclosures​ for a while now!! secretly hoping they’ll reblog my setup once I’m done with it (gonna be a while though, I think I’m gonna let the snake adjust to tank w/ newspaper only before adding substrate so I don’t overwhelm her, she’s been on newspaper since she was born two months ago). Just checked out @why-animals-do-the-thing​ and already found a helpful post on getting snakes used to handling, thanks for the suggestion!

I’ve been keeping reptiles for 10+ years and can try and help you out with anything you need to know. :) The bcc are similar to the bci, only get quite bigger!(which is why I don’t currently have one lol) but I do know a lot about their care!

That’s awesome! Woma pythons are so beautiful!! And I on the other hand really wanted a snake that will get big which is a big part of why I went with bcc over bci :) Gonna have a proper dragon in like... 6 years haha. But I do know care is largely the same. I do plan on getting other snakes as well eventually but starting off slow (if big) for now, so this’ll be my only herp for the next several years at least.

my boyfriend has one, make sure that tank is long enough for her to stretch out in!

I went all-in on the enclosure--starting with a 4ft tank (very cluttered up right now so the baby feels secure) and am prepared to expand it to 6 or 8 feet as she grows. Hopefully the 4ft will last me the first several years at least though!

What is the most unusual plant grown in Pod's garden?

Probably not the MOST unusual, but one plant growing in Pod’s Garden is there by accident. Called the “land leech” by dragons who run into them while hunting in the southern jungle, Nepenthes ambulare is a breed of pitcher plant that Pod accidentally created in his early experiments with ambulatory plants. Most walking plants are content to simply follow sunlight around (unless specifically given enough intelligence to be given a directive or even a personality of its own), but something must have gone wrong when Pod decided to try out an experimental method on a predatory plant. They’ve apparently been thriving in the century since their escape into the wild, although their methods of survival are questionable. 

They have some amount of inexplicable bloodlust and will attach themselves to just about anything that happens to walk past them. To most scaly dragons this is just a nuisance, but their digestive juices can leave a rash on contact. Presumably, if the plant was able to suction itself onto a creature for long enough, it could “burn” a hole through the skin and get nutrients that way, but there are no recorded cases of that happening, even on wild animals. Despite their predatory drive, the land leech’s primary source of food remains the same as their sedentary ancestors: insects are attracted to the scent of the liquid in the pitcher and get trapped in there without any effort on the plant’s part. In Pod’s notes on Nepenthes ambulare he wrote in the margin that “it is the most frustrated plant I have ever seen.”
