The following post was originally a topic to be shared on @herhoneysuckle and my Le Femme Divine Podcast. Since we’ve decided to take an indefinite break from it, I will be sharing some of the topics we wanted to discuss on here.
Our next episode was to be about so-called “ugly emotions” or emotions that we often don’t like to express or deal with because they are often so big and, if not careful, uncontrollable. Nevertheless they are important to the wholeness of being. We are more than just the “pretty” or “nice” emotions of happy and joy. We get sad, we get jealous, we get angry; and these all have their purpose and their place.

On Bill Cunningham
I clocked his blue jacket from a half a block away. As I grew closer, I saw him spinning and snapping, taking a moment to decide and snapping again. He was economic in his movements, exhibiting the grace he often captured in his photographs. As I entered into Bill Cunningham’s orbit I felt a rush of emotions. Absolute joy being the first, floored that for even a moment I was lucky enough to be able to see this master at work. He was not only a huge influence on my life and my profession, but a person who exhibited all of my ideals as an artist. This man, who at 87, with all that he had accomplished and all of the iconography that he had created, still went out every morning and searched for something new to raise his lens towards. He held no pretense. He was generous with his lens and without it. He took his work seriously. He was respected and adored. He was a legend in a city that valued greatness. He was one of the best artists of this or any century.
I couldn’t allow myself to stop him and tell him how important he was to me. I didn’t want to bother him, perhaps causing him to miss something that he had been searching for. He valued his invisibility and I’d rather not disappoint him. I passed him and exhaled. A few minutes later as I wandered further down the block, I saw Bill go rolling by on his bike off to his next corner, or show or film drop. He was going to search for something, raising his camera whenever he was able to find it. Bill, thanks for sharing everything you found.
