FYI: onacoldnight is now wryhta.

this development stems from a move I am trying to make to consolidate my social media and blogs and create more of a mature presence for myself. I have been on Tumblr since 2010-ish and have not made many changes since then, so this is overdue! I have updated my desktop theme as well.

I am also going to try to post more original content about my own life, thoughts, etc. (i.e. what a blog should be!).

please reach out if you have any thoughts about the changes. I am always looking for feedback!

day one/day three/day nine

so we’re finally making home in sunny sacramento, and for maybe the first time in my life, I am comfortable just existing here. I am comfortable with my love and my other love and all my loves--that is, my Graylon and my Squish and all the wonderful things that come with starting over in a beautiful new place. we’re already looking around for bar trivia. we’ve already spent a sunny afternoon at a laundromat. I’ve discovered bulk food. I have a nap cave in my secret walk-in closet. we’re making friends, slowly but surely. I might go swimming in the pool or biking by the river tonight. Gray just got confirmation on his job, and I am comfortable and confident that I will find one soon, too. the floors are clearing of our random piles of stuff. we joked with Anastaciya at the dollar store about giving out coat hangers for halloween because I bought so many. we had chicken and peppers the first night and when we came in the next morning the whole house still smelled of them. the house is bright with afternoon sun and Gray is studying for the maths GRE and I am petting the cat-baby and I am pondering where to hang the flags and I am not waiting for the other shoe to drop and I am breathing, breathing, breathing so freely. praises be to everything and anything that has helped me make it to here and here to make it to me.

One and one-third down

They say every seven years all of the cells in your body will have been replaced.

Every day already seems another new beginning, except

Instead of being a clean plate

It’s being sent to the back of the line again today

For something I did wrong yesterday.

I don’t know whether I’ll ever even reach seven years

Because I keep pushing the promised land away

Trying too hard to find a crumb to sustain

Until the manna falls.

They say every seven years you have a new body

And boy oh boy am I ever hoping they’re right

Since this one still doesn’t seem to fit.

(In fact, I think it shrinks in the wash at the end of every day.)

I’m ready for a body that looks how it feels

And feels how it looks

And maybe next time it won’t be made out of muslin

But of silk.

(Just this once?)

They say every seven years you get to start over, that

The temple that is your body falls away

And you both may and must rebuild.

They say souls somehow stay even when the body goes

But I’m looking forward to moving out of this tent and into a castle

If I ever find the courage

To draw up the plans.

Maybe someday I'll even find home.
