Fandom

Just now, I came across this hashtag on twitter: #onedirectionimsorryfor. Now, I’m not a 1D fan, but that doesn’t stop me from being extremely touched by this. I’ve been in fandom for basically all of my life (like 20+ years), and I’ve seen it change dramatically - unfortunately, for the worst.

We all need to face the facts that fandom, as a whole... “thing”, has a lot of problems. We, as fans, need to admit to those issues and try to fix them, rather than continually try to bury them and pretend everything is glitz and glamour.

I may not be a 1Der, but as a fellow ‘fan’, I am grateful. Thank you to the fans who started this, I hope to see it spread.
