This post was inspired by my recent catch of both versions of the @thersaf Fokker 50 (712-Utility Transport Aircraft/UTA and 714-Maritime Patrol Aircraft/MPA) flying together and doing circuit at the same time. Definitely not an everyday thing. Displayed in this post (picture #3) is my humble collection of 121 Squadron patches/coin that traces its history back to 1973 when it first flew the Short Skyvan 3M, predecessor of the current Fokker 50. Back then (1973-late 1993) their mascot was the Gannet until it became Brahminy Kite with the Fokker 50. 121 Squadron operates one of two RSAF platforms jointly with the @singaporenavy which explains the apt tagline - 1 Family, 2 Services, 1 SAF - on their patch. This joint operation between the two services started since 1988 when the Skyvan began to undertake Maritime Air Surveillance (MAS) missions and was sustained when the Fokker 50 MPA version arrived from 1996. Next year 2023, 121 Squadron will celebrate its 50th anniversary and the Fokker 50 will commemorate 30 years of service (UTA version arrived in 1993, MPA in 1996). This will be a significant milestone for the Gannet/Brahminy Kite/Enforcer family from both services. Reference: Goh, Y. K.
