Maria Veronica. Cashier. Sodexo Northwestern University. During one of her shifts, Maria was not offered overtime despite other workers with less seniority being allowed to work. Maria knew this went counter to the contract and filed a grievance at the Local 1 office. Maria was awarded close to $200 in back pay, serving as a reminder to the boss that contract violations will not be tolerated. Give it up for Maria!

Pablo. Banquet Houseman. Allerton Hotel. He was wrongfully terminated last year after the Company accused him stealing time when Pablo willingly sought out and completed a time correction form. Pablo came down to Local 1 to file for a grievance and fight for his job. Last week, rather than go through with an arbitration, the Company decided to negotiate the terms of Pablo's return to work. The Company agreed to pay $15,000 in back pay, along with benefit contributions and a return to work effective this Friday. Congratulations, Pablo!!
Rosalia, Chantel and Pashion. Room attendants. the Allegro Hotel. They, along with two other workers, were overlooked for available overtime by management. They filed a grievance and won 6 hours of overtime pay each. Way to go, ladies!
Annie. Room Attendant. W City Center. During a work week, she realized that workers with less seniority had been given options to work overtime while she hadn't. Annie filed a grievance and after presenting her case won 8 hours of pay. Great job, Annie!
Arteisha. AREAS. Arteisha was unjustly fired from AREAS food service at O’Hare Airport. Arteisha fought back by filing a grievance. She argued her case and won her job back with seniority and over $5,000.00 in back pay! Welcome back Arteisha!!
David. Doorman. Ritz Carlton Hotel. Earlier last year, David realized that management was having non-union members carry out the work of Union doormen by way of not scheduling enough doormen to cover lunch and shift breaks and having non-union workers do this job. David came to terms with how many shifts he and other workers had missed because of this and filed a grievance. After presenting the case and proving this trend on the schedules, David won a bit over $11,000 in back pay for doormen who were affected by this. Way to defend the value of Union labor, David!
