How science fiction taught me to appreciate historical fiction
I'm not proud of the fact that there was a point in my life when I looked down on historical fiction. It wasn't until I "discovered" science fiction that I began to appreciate historical fiction for what it is.
A fun fact about me: I have a background in history. Sorta. I feel weird saying that, but it’s true: I do, after all, have a BA in history. So while I don’t now nor do I plan on perusing a career in history, there is a certain level of comfort with the study of history there.

: I like the kind of ending that's unexpected before it happens but once it unfolds you kind of see why it has to happen that way even if it's sad and the characters grow or change in some way and things aren't picture perfect.
