title: 5 casual touches that were right + 1 (and every time after That Night) that were wrong
summary: the first time it happens, Kent is pretty sure Jack doesn't know what he's doing, doesn't know that he's taking everything in Kent's head and distilling it to focus on one touch that's sparking electricity up his spine and making him want to simultaneously shiver away and lean into it. The second time it happens, they're in a game and Jack's hands, between the gloves and Kent's pads, shouldn't feel different from anyone else's, but they do. The third time, they're alone, and Kent can't quite stop himself from leaning into Jack's hand, just a little, just to make that look of "I'm gonna pull away soon" leave Jack's face. The fourth time, Jack's helping Kent with his necklace because Kent's fingers are so bruised and swolled he can't get the clasp to work and he thought he was over this, he did, but now it's Back and-
The fifth time, Jack definitely knows what he's doing, and he's definitely using it to his advantage.
Kent is so, so lonely in Vegas. It takes most of preseason, but he's learned that if he looks pathetic enough and mimics just a little of the Zimmermann Puppy Eyes, he can get Scraps or Swoops or someone to cuddle him. It's not enough. Inevitably, it feels wrong every time, and Kent's not sure if this is better or worse than being alone.
He just-
He wants an impossible thing, and that is perhaps, the tragedy of it all.
