⛓️ what does guilt feel like to them?

a constant companion. ugly, simmering heat and weight even when nothing has happened and there's little on her mind, but when she's anxious or brushing up against not quite forgotten memories it swarms hot and electric under her plating

🪶 how do they laugh?

usually loud and raucous, a bit brittle in tone if you know her well enough to spot it and she's faking some of her good mood. naturally inclined to cackle

one cool metal, one smooth layers of whorled wood. both unyielding and capable of exerting incredible amounts of force, but normally deft and very, very light when touching anything. until violence happens, of course

she's a dour sort who learned to shut down most vulnerable emotions many years ago, but she did shed a few tears when she finally grew some actually decent crops after her accidental retirement/faked death

I feel these are all fairly on the nose, but it's a fun question!

oni: pawn. one of many, not currently capable of huge feats - but still solid, and with potential for growth

kostya: rook. partly bc the piece looks like castle battlements... it can work with the king, but is linear and straightforward in action

amita: bishop. rook but slightly to the left! diagonal movement makes me think of slightly more flexibility, while being limited to one colour reflects amita's own mindset and attachment to the light

omen: knight?? I'm most uncertain with this one tbh. they're aggressive pieces and also knights are associated with duty and purpose, which is also omen's deal

14. How is their mental health, generally speaking?

local man represses problems and is surprised they still exist! it is not great, but he's not really aware of it for quite a long time. in his defence, he does a lot of anchoring activities when off duty, and enjoys making food and checking on his plants... he seems very much like a functional and centred guy. but he always feels unduly lucky to have survived when so many people around him didn't. it makes him push himself, and take on duties and responsibilities no one asked him to or expects

having a quasi-undead wish parasite permanently grafted on that is far more aware of his mental state doesn't help! he resents the ahamkara he ends up with for relying on his continued survival, so he can't just risk himself as freely. it also greatly unnerves him to have anything acknowledge desires or motivations he has long since learned to disregard

but anyways it's fine. he's fine. let him onto your strike team please

17. What do they do to self-soothe when they're not feeling well?

if she's not too fidgety, doing some sewing with light conversation is best - very tactile and just the right mix of distraction and focus. but if she can't sit still for that, then loud music and hopping on a sparrow to get some of the worst of the agitation out

omen-5: cast-off feathers, bits of eggshell, interesting bits of rock, non-fragile samples small enough to carry on xyr person, and anything else that catches xyr interest when xe's wandering around

oni-42: some neat fabric she wants to show eva or to try stitching into a wip cloak, a few handfuls of glimmer, a pocketknife with an elaborate handle or a nice pattern in the metal. she's a bit of a magpie and tends to carry a lot of bits and bobs on her. also a sewing kit and some oil and metal polish

amita: handcrafted charms and ornaments from the city markets. a pressed flower from the dreaming city. probably a few gifts passed on to them by followers

kostya: if he's in the city, stuff he likely bought there - spices, coffee beans, fertilizer and minerals for soil. dismantled or damaged gear he wants someone to take a look at, some gardening tools, some ammo

12. What kind of hobbies do they have? -OR- how do they fill their downtime?

omen spends most of xyr free time observing the environment. xe's spent years studying a particular area and the species within it through the course of the seasons

xe also feeds a flock of local wood doves during the winter, and watching them is something xe enjoys. xe also gathers up bodies or bones to take to the city for ghosts to look after

oni's hobbies are weird ancient media, fashion, and eating impractical things for reactions from innocent passersby

16. How do they counteract nightmares [bad dreams]? How do they counter Nightmares [Pyramid constructs]?

already answered for oni, so... omen tends to sleep less than most exos manage to, and any dreams at all tend to be disorienting, especially nightmares. mostly if one wakes xem up xe'll talk to boon about it, and then just avoid going back to sleep

as for Nightmares, xyr go-to response would be enough void to create a gravity distortion. surely it can't hurt?? I feel xe would struggle with the connection they have to fear and pain, let alone that it's more effective to tap into that rather than blow them up

however, xe would be pretty calm about constantly destroying the ominously murmuring shade of xemself following them around!

20. If they were playing "kiss, marry, kill", who would be their top 3 candidates?

omen would name three people in xyr line of sight. bonus if one of the people named is the person initiating this in the first place

oni would kiss zavala (to say she did it), marry ada, and kill the drifter

kostya! fitting since I'm giving him a major rework (stapling dragon bones and stasis crystals onto him. It's Fine)

5. how do they typically dress? does their wardrobe lean more towards practicality or aesthetics?

generally practically and for comfort. he's the loose cotton or linen shirts kind of guy off duty, and he prefers simpler and uncluttered armour on missions... though he'll allow for a more ornamented mark, especially if it's symbolic

colour-wise, he tends to cool colour palettes and deep blues

10. if they wear jewelry, what kind? do they prefer silver or gold? do they have a favorite gem?

also a fan of simple and understated jewelry! he has a few necklaces and bracelets he likes but they're neither very fancy nor elaborate

silver over gold, and he thinks amber is especially cool. preserved history, now made visible to the world again...

practical but Ruggedly Cool, usually. oni prefers the wilderness and most of her outfits are chosen to reflect that, and not be worse for wear if she decides to go mountain climbing or ruin exploring or whatever. even casually, she's fond of cool outdoorsy stuff! but she's also fond of ridiculously loud colours and will sometimes go for a cloak or pants you can see from miles away

10. if they wear jewelry, what kind? do they prefer silver or gold? do they have a favorite gem?

oni isn't actually big on jewelry. maybe some rings... but she will hold on to anything that's bright or weird, regardless of if she ever plans to wear it

gold over silver, and she thinks semiprecious stones are generally cooler than most gemstones for the variety... but opals are also cool

oni-42: probably crucible, mostly because I think she'd like the sillier modes and also has better reflexes than I do lmao

kostya: vanguard! he'd enjoy the variety of stuff it covers and it being collaborative

amita: crucible because they would likely be terrifying in it. or like. trials???

omen-5: this is funny because xe does not like the drifter at all but. gambit. gathering stuff and bringing it back and getting to shut down a team by just showing up and killing everyone? this would be fun for xem

kostya takes something from every mission he's been on - a dented piece of armour, a bit of rubble, a trophy from an enemy - to remember it. he gets a little discomfited if he doesn't get the chance to do this. he doesn't want even the most basic and uneventful strikes to become meaningless background

he also avoids wishing death on people, telling them to jump off a cliff, etc - not even to other guardians, not even in the crucible. he thinks they all come much too close to death too often to carelessly bring it up

16. How do they counteract nightmares [bad dreams]? How do they counter Nightmares [Pyramid constructs]?

oni's prone to bad dreams and is good at keeping herself busy. depending on how bad it is, she might just queue up some bad and weird old media to watch with miraj, or sort through all her clothes and armour, do some major shader experimentation or go somewhere far and fast on a sparrow

her answer to Nightmares is to simply not be in places where they are. no fucking thanks

amita would kiss ikora, marry rahool for archives access and kill osiris. not that they would be caught playing this but I am making an exception
