A troubled relationship with your stepmom is something that can actually be so romantic
I love seeing portrayals of complex family bonds, especially mother - kids in fiction. Whether that's complex good or complex bad, whether it's a family who are divided against each other or who are loyal to each other above all else. I love seeing it in a wholesome, nurturing way, where they stick together through thick and thin, or reconcile their differences, or have a moment so touching it moves me to tears.
And yet, I have no problem sullying a beautiful and sweet dynamic like that in fanfiction, and putting them through absolutely gross and sicknasty sexual mishaps. That's the thing about being proship, and being able to distinguish fiction from reality (and fanworks from source material). The wholesome and the revolting can and do coexist and are enjoyed in their own ways.
It's like quantum physics (not that I know how that works). The same place at the same time, in different states.
Aquamarine's (mis)adventures with friends & family ~♡
Himegawa-san ships Aqua and Ruby. He can tell that his new half-siblings are a bit unusual, and are struggling with complicated and very un-familial feelings for each other... but ultimately, he wants them to be happy🤭

Ruby is high-masking autistic.
As Sarina, she had practically no close friends (if we don't count her doctor), and her hyperfixation with idols became her whole world. Post-reincarnation, we continue to see this side of her when she's very young, having basically an otaku personality. But as she gets older and makes new friends with girls close to her in age, this obsessive side to her recedes a bit. She's still mad about idols and becoming one herself, but she presents in a way that's more socially acceptable, rather than the unabashed simping she did when she was younger.
It can be a double-edged sword. It's definitely easier for her to make and maintain friendships this way, which is something she's grateful for, but sometimes she struggles to open up about concerns or things that are important to her, feeling like other people wouldn't understand her perspective.
Ruby: Mem, you're a bit older than us!
Mem-cho: Urgh, thanks for reminding me.
Kana: Sorry. We were just wondering... well, hypothetically, if someone was hoping to do... that... with a guy, for the first time, is there anything she should know?
Mem-cho: Ah. Well, hypothetically speaking, if it's her first time, then the most important thing is that she should feel comfortable with the situation. She should only do it if she feels ready. And ideally, it should be with a guy she knows well, who she can trust, and who makes her feel safe.
Ruby [nodding sagely]: Like her brother.
Mem-cho: yes- NO! WHAT??? No!!!!!
Ruby: Hey, what do you call it when someone you've had a crush on for ages is sending you subtle signals they'd like to bang?
Aqua: I don't know, what?
Ruby: Siblinginal messaging!!!
Aqua: I don't get it.
