ooh! i actally hadn’t considered this until today! okay so here’s my idea:
i’m thinking he sees her first for sure, as he scrolls through his instagram’s explore page. through the myriad of random shit he sees there - food, mostly - he stumbles upon this girl. and she’s gorgeous.
it had to have been the picture of her on the beach in a yellow swimsuit, probably. he saw it and his heard fell to his ass. so being the boy—ahem, man— that he is, he decided to give her a like.
but then another few days go by and he’s found that she’d posted again, being that she’s made her way back to his explore page. so he thinks, fuck it, and follows her.
now once she got the notification that she got a follow, she clicked it as one generally does. and she saw his bio and his follower count, more importantly. she thinks she’s either dreaming or suddenly she’s become insanely popular.
so she follows him back because why not?
and then he loses his mind. because she’s really pretty. and he doesn’t know what it is about her that just reels him in but he can’t get enough. so he does the stupid (stalkerish, even) thing and goes back to her page, scrolling and scrolling until he was all the way at the end of her feed, only liking the recent ones because anything earlier than her posts from the last couple months would be a dead giveaway that he’d taken a liking to her.
so by the end of the week he’s liked about six of her pictures. and ironically, he’s posting a lot more, so that she can like more of his photos--and she does.
by the end of the second week of them playing the game of “who finds the other more attractive”, he decides to branch out and send her a message.

that would be the entire message. no “how are you?”, no “i think you’re really pretty”, or anything to that effect.
she gets the notification when she’s out at the mall with her sister. and she tells her, “there’s a guy that followed me on instagram and he just messaged me.”
“so...message him back?” she doesn’t know what to do, so she uses her sister’s opinion as her course of action as she usually does anyway.
so she did.

awkward, yes. but she doesn’t know what to say and he messaged her. so it’s his job to (or not to) carry on the conversation.
he’s a cutie, she’ll admit.
but there’s no way he couldn’t be a catfish as attractive as he is...right?
