Ashraf Jamal writes about Geers' work in the exhibition essay "Point/Blank": First conceived against apartheid, now wracked by global emergency, Kendall Geers’ oeuvre has never lost sight of the death instinct built into Church and State. That we have willed our death, chosen slavery, is Geers’ blistering wager. It is not human perversity that horrifies him, but the dark desire that drives it. Chicago, Illinois, USA. Paloma Trecka pushes the language of collage by abandoning representational imagery and eliminating figurative signifiers. Her abstract compositions explore expressionist painting issues through the medium of paper and various low relief materials. Her collages reveal rhythmic repetitions that confound single point of view illusory spaces through layers of cardboard in lieu of paint, often careening into the realms of bas-relief and sculpture. San Francisco Women Artists have issued an open call to all San Francisco Bay Area artists to submit for their "Collage and Mixed Media" show in honor of World Collage Day 2021. Both 2D & 3D works are welcomed for submission, including but not limited to: mixed media, textile/woven, bas relief, sculpture. Juried by artist and teacher Lorna Stevens, the exhibition celebrates “an art medium that excels in bringing different elements together to create new forms and new ways of thinking.” MORE
