Australiasian Grebes are the smallest species of #Australian grebe. They're common throughout Australia, often nesting in lakes on suburban parklands. A pair have started defending their section of a local dam. At this stage in the season they are on-edge, responding to my squeaks and poor imitations of their calls by simultaneously running/flying across the water and calling. @gemmadeavin was quite amused to hear the term "bogey bird" (I insist it's pronounced "boogie") and to me, that is exactly what the red-browed pardalote represents- a photographic troublemaker. I lived in their habitat for a year and didn't end up getting a decent image, and on repeated trips through their range I'd missed them. Varied Sitella from the Kimberley. These birds are the ecological equivalents of nut-hatches- small birds that glean insects from the trunk by probing the nooks and crannies of the bark. There is only one species in Australia but it is widespread with several different races. Australasian Reed Warbler from one of th dams near where I live.
