“i need to write something halfway decent or i’m honestly going to...”
I believe in you! Also, don't pressure yourself about writing something 'halfway decent'. Give yourself a pat on the back for writing at all, or even thinking of ideas (good or bad). Just because you don't think your writing is good enough doesn't mean it's not. I write a lot (not as much for Sterek, but original stuff) and when I get into the mindset that it has to be good, my productivity goes down and my anxiety shoots through the roof. Accept that it doesn't have to be perfect the first or second or third time, and maybe just word vomit it out. That tends to help me. Sorry for the insanely long reply (and perhaps unwarranted advice) - I just hate to see you unhappy like this. You're fabulous without your writing. <3
<3 That's probably actually the best advice I've gotten, thank you. I wrote 2,500 words last night and they were awful, and as soon as I read it over I felt like I'd wasted my entire night. But at least it's a step up from not writing anything, and I should give myself credit for that.
And I definitely appreciate those of you saying I don't need to be writing to be worthwhile. But letting you guys down is only part of it -- it's also painful for me, as a creative person, not to be creating. I've been writing since I was five or so (gems such as "My Cat Blacky" and a ghost story picture book that ended up being pretty morbid on later reading :P), and I've always been writing something - fanfic, original fic, drabbles, stray scenes and ideas. Sure, I'd go a few weeks here and there without writing but being stuck all winter like this just... well, it sucks, and it's making me stressed. <3
