Onward Fanfic; Transfer Students
Chapter 2; Accepted
[Chapter one was better... And longer, but eh, not every chapter can be gold I guess! I am just having fun after all! Anywho, enjoy! I'm hoping to continue this more, so please leave feedback ❤ As I said before this fanfic is a very self indulgent crossover with my OCs, and this chapter mentions my OC Avery! Star, who belongs to @itsme-star is also briefly mentioned ❤ ]
The younger brother walked home, Barley had to work over time at Quest of Yore Corner and couldn't drive him home today. It wasn't too big of a deal, he didn't live too far away, but it was a bit boring by himself. He got to thinking about the program as he walked, it'd been a couple of weeks since he applied, wonder if he'd been accepted? He wasn't sure if being accepted or rejected would be worse... He should be getting his answer any time now... He thought about it the entire way home. He approached his front door, getting out his keys and undoing the lock. Upon walking in the door, Blazey began excitedly jumping up on him.
"Blazey, down girl! Down!" He said as he laughed, petting the energetic dragon. "Here girl, fetch!" He threw a tennis ball, sending the dragon running down the hall. She was as elegant as a wet noodle.
He had about an hour until his mom and brother got off work, that should be enough time to take care of his science homework.
He made his way upstairs, going in his room and taking off his bag as he sat at his desk. Pulling out his homework, he got to work. He focused intently, getting sucked into his work for a while.
Suddenly the front door opened, breaking his concentration.
"Ian! We're home!" His mother called out, "Down Blazey!" He heard her yell, "And I got the mail! You have a letter, from the school!"
"I think the school has sent you a letter, accepting your request to change places with a peasant from another kingdom!" Barley added on.
"What? A-a letter?" He quietly said to himself, he wasn't sure if he was anxious or excited, maybe both? He ran downstairs, meeting family members in the living room.
"Here you go sweetie!" His mother smiled, handing it to him.
Ian hesitated to take it, unsure if he wanted to know what it said. He grabbed the letter from her, gently crumbling it between his thumb and forefinger with a sigh.
"Ian open the letter! The council has determined your fate, see what the sacred document has to say!"
"It's okay Ian, take your time."
He slowly opened the letter, reading it aloud.
"Dear Ian Lightfoot," he began, "We are happy to inform you that you have been accepted into the program!" His face turned to one of shock as he continued, "In two months you will be heading to The Tradeskeep High School in Tradeskeep to study! Please visit the site listed to learn more about your temporary town, the following page will have information about the student you will be exchanged with. Good luck and have fun, Ian!"
"Wow, you were accepted! Not that I'm surprised!" Barley laughed triumphantly, "Are you excited Ian? You get to see a completely new town!" He shouted in excitement.
"I- umm, yeah! I-I think so? It- it sounds interesting, I've never heard of it before!" He smiled nervously, grabbing the second page.
"Hundreds of students have applied, but the lucky student selected to come to your town is Avery of Tradeskeep-"
"Avery huh? That's a cool name! I bet he's super cool!" Barley interrupted in his excitement.
Ian continued, "17 years old, she enjoys experiencing new things, meeting new people, and likes making potions, she's looking forward to learning about New Mushroomington and hopes to make new friends."
"Oh she- well it's still a cool name, and I'd still bet she's super cool. A potion maker huh? I'm more of a rouge myself, but I bet we could of a fun QoY session!" Barley added on.
"A girl in the house, for three months? Who plays Quests of Yore? You don't think Star will get too jealous do you?" Their mother teased.
"Nah, my princess knows her knight is loyal! Tens of girls could be in the house and she wouldn't worry about a single one of them!" He boldly stated as though it were an absolute fact, as Ian laughed at his smug self assured smile.
"Wow... I-I can't believe this is happening! I'm going to Tradeskeep! I wonder what it's like!"
"Let us research this new town dear brother! We shall see where fate has taken you with my mystical portal of knowledge!"
"... You're gonna Google it?"
"I'm gonna Google it!" He shouted, running to get his laptop.
Ian laughed, and the rest of the evening was spent reseating about the strange new town Ian would be visiting soon.

Meanwhile, far away, Avery and her family would be spending the morning looking into New Mushroomington, excited to see where she was going.
"Woah! I've never even hearda this place!" Avery shouted, "It says they dent really use magic anymore! That they're almost entirely modern! That's so different! Ah'm so excited!"
"I wonder if this Ian knows anything about magic, if his way of living is entirely modern it may throw him off some." Averys father wondered aloud.
"Ah'm sure he'll be fine, he'll havea great time! And Ah'm sure I'll have a great time in his hometown too! Ooh!" She somehow got even more excited, "They have a tavern! With a Manticore! Ooh that sounds so cool! I wanna eat there!"
The entire morning went on like this, with her finding new things to look forward too and getting more and more excited to leave. While Ian was going to sleep, she'd spend the entire day looking into his small town.
