clears throat. obligatory wilfred owen link because “to stare upon the ash of all i burned” is HHGHH and anyway because i was having trouble determining if nolanel wants salvation or elliot more. and i can’t take salvation away from him. so.

nolanel has peace in his life. he keeps his curtains open though he maintains his fences, he talks more to livestock and the sky than to other people, and he strangles that wriggling feeling of ‘what if’ every day he wakes up alone. his walks through the city help to stave off his isolation and remind him why he chose such a thing: it’s easier, he’s closer to ephemie, he isn’t assaulted with expectations and memories and guilt. still, he’s stable in coerthas. he busies himself with the general, unthinking business of self-sufficiency. occasionally he provides shelter to traveling soldiers and pilgrims (and wonders too long about them after they leave). mostly, he does right by what he can and observes the world that holds no place for him carry on.

What's one trait Autumn likes about herself? What's a trait she likes in others?

“Reliability” is the word that springs to mind; Dark has cultivated habits that mesh with her natural caregiver tendencies, making her a dependable rock type. Her outward calm helps that a lot, and her upbringing as part of a large, rowdy family makes it easy to learn to roll with things and adapt. She doesn't take a lot of things too personally, or seriously, unless she’s given very good reason to.

By the same token, she looks for reliability in others. She needs to know who has her back, and who doesn’t, and whether her loyalty is deserved. She doesn’t want her time and resources wasted when important business is occurring. Even if said dependability is bad, if she’s aware of it she can work around it, or even ply it to her advantage.

Is there anything Ivaan hates about the Shroud?

The more he traveled outwards from Gridania, the more injustices seemed to pile up. Especially in the Southern reaches of the forest. Refugees with nowhere to go, denied out of hand by the forest because of it’s long remembered grudge. These were not even the same people that attacked the woods; the Autumn War took place almost 60 years ago, after all. Worse, nothing could really be done about it. You’re dealing with inhuman immortal beings that don’t think in mortal timescales, and going against their word means risking other people’s lives. Then there was the poaching Keeper tribes and the treatment of Duskwights, too. It left him with a bit of a bad taste in his mouth.

For any of your characters: How good are they at telling stories?

Yun: Despite the fact that she is born into the role of a Seeress who delivers her visions to a group of devotees, Yun fucking sucks at storytelling. She hates storytelling. If you ask her to tell spooky stories around a campfire, she’ll steal your hot chocolate and all your smores.

Ai: Ai likes to think she’s good at storytelling, but in reality she’s very boring because she’s actually just reciting things she’s read word for word like she’s giving a report. Interestingly enough, her original self, Aisling, was a great storyteller and especially fond of singing Ala Mhigan folklore or Doman myths. (This is supposed to fit the Devola/Popola insp, as Aisling was the bard and Ai is the bookworm.)

Does Hina enjoy any "Eorzean"-style garments?

Hmm! I think early on Hina enjoyed the Ul’dahn the most, and it was what she saw in Sapphire Avenue that inspired her to piece together her Yuna-esque attire. Though through dabbling in other regional tastes as necessary sometimes she did come to enjoy what she felt was “simple yet cute” Eorzean fashion.

Do any of your characters have bits of jewelry or other accessories they're loath to be parted with?

For the Aubreys, it’s their earrings! Each of them have a pair of identical gold ear cuffs. Keit’a made them before Rothe left for Limsa Lominsa.

Both Kassem and Ikraam have matching rings for their coming of age, but niether make it a point to wear them all the time. Kassem, because he often wears gloves and is also not about to ruin it while working. Ikraam, because they’d rather wear a variety of other rings and/or fancy gloves. (I use the Allagan Maiming/Healing rings)

16. Tell me one (or more) things your character resents.

Baithin resents the idea of someone taking away his freedoms, or anyone who imposed their power upon others.

Azionne resents the Ascians, but she most actively resents herself. Even after changing her circumstances and trying to improve her lot in life, her past mistakes are all finally catching up to her.

Edge hates the Garlean Empire, obviously, but also his own inadequacies. He feels he has failed the people most important to him too many times to count.

Granny, too, hates the Empire for all it has taken away from her. Other than that, she doesn’t really feel like she can carry much resentment in her heart anymore.

Gogo doesn’t hate the Empire, but he does resent some of the things they’ve done. He also hates the idea of their technology and innovations being used for something evil.

Lini hates injustice. She resents criminals. She hates the idea of showing weakness, though that part she is slowly coming to terms with.

Siz’ir resents his past actions and his own tendencies to run away from his problems, but even knowing that he is in no hurry to confront them.

Yue is perhaps the only one on this list who probably can’t say she resents anything, but she does get a little angry sometimes at the fact that she can’t fully remember things about her life.

Majv resents the sin eaters most of all. She resents how she was unable to save her Cluster. She resents the people of Eulmore and their inaction, too.

Pachi resents the people of Eulmore as well, but not to the same extent as Majv. Otherwise, he resents the current state of the world and the fact that it’s facing oblivion and he can’t do anything about it except try to escape it.
