OOCC #4 - Reverse Psychology

Theorizing here.

Maybe I’m overthinking it (1) but her being a therapist is working against her. There’s the obvious overconfidence of being knowledgable about mental health but I think there’s a bigger issue at play.

In the previous episode she called (2) in she was quick to shoot down Stav’s use of the 5 Stages of Grief claiming it to be “not backed by research/science” or something along those lines. I’m betting this isn’t the first time someone has used that mental framework to describe her situation but because she took Psych for 2-6 years she has that fact ready to go so that she doesn’t have to acknowledge it.

She is proud of what she does. I believe this pride makes her fond of sharing her knowledge and academic discoveries.(3) Nothing that would break patient confidentiality I hope but rather data and research (4). Books on psychology she might be fascinated about or a new study she might be currently implementing with clients. That sort of thing. Sharing psychoanalytic fascinations is actually giving this guy a huge advantage to manipulate her emotionally. I wouldn’t be surprised if her ex actually planted the idea in her head that their breakup will disrupt their friend group. Might be a reach but I’ve seen the lengths manipulative people will go to.
