seriously tho since when has gotham done ed any favours? why would he have some attachment to it when technically he’s never truly had a home he’s settled in? he’s moved from place to place and in each place something terrible happens. it only makes sense he’d want to leave everything behind. so why would he change his mind and come back to gotham, why would he say something like “i kind of like the city the way it is” other than as a cover up? the rest of gotham are saying they’re fighting for their city, so why not say what everybody else is saying, it’s the easiest way to not reveal the true reason he came back, despite the fact that it only really makes sense he’d come back for oz. this whole season we’ve been shown ed’s side of nygmobblepot and his feelings towards and oz and how it’s been building up, we’ve been shown ed excited and fully ready to leave with oz, just the two of them, there’s his blatant protectiveness over oz w bane, there’s the whole conversation about following your heart, something which ed constantly fights against... the head vs heart thing is very him. all of this is connected, and all of this points to oz as being the true reason ed comes back to gotham. everyone else is fighting for the city they love, while he’s fighting for the person he loves.
