steve’s mouth parts open as billy brings a tentative hand up. billy hesitates even though he is so close to touching steve in the way he’s wanted to for weeks now.

billy searches steve’s face for an answer to his unasked question - steve’s eyes catch the light coming in from the porch, they say go on.

billy reaches forward then, thumbs the spot underneath steve’s left eye where it sometimes looks bruised from lack of sleep.

his other hand brushes up the side of steve’s neck, his fingers sliding back to the soft, soft skin behind steve’s ear. billy cups his hand behind it.

they stand there is silence, billy holding steve’s face in his hands, overwhelmed with the newly granted permission to touch.
