YGOTOBER Day 5: Experiment

This one was hard! I had to go to @yamisonarbtleh for help! She threw a couple ideas at me and I rearranged some thoughts and came up with this! I really like how this one came out and it reminded me of an old show I used to watch as a kid “The Twilight Zone”.

So enjoy this experiment! MWAHAHA!!!

Kaiba told him not to do it. That the last time he tried it, it failed, and the computer did not build it right. Did not build him right! But that was Kaiba’s memories, Kaiba’s thoughts of the man, not Yugi’s!

“If I just fix some of the bugs and change it to read both my brain waves and my emotions. Maybe just maybe…” He chewed on his bottom lip as he typed on the keyboard, his focus completely on the coding. One wrong code and the program would end it chaos!

Yugi knew the risks of the experiment, he knew it could end up not like the other. But he had to try! He had to see if it was possible to create another him.

“I miss you so much.” He spoke out loud, to someone, to no one really. “I just want to see you again, to hear your voice.”

He typed for so long his fingers went numb, his eyes burned from the bright blue light coming off the screens that surrounded him. But he had finally made a breakthrough!

“Kaiba was wrong! This can be done!” He pulled himself away from the computer and looked over his notes. He had figured it out!

“He can...he can come back!” Yugi stood up and smiled at all the data that laid in front of him. “I did it. I actually did it.”

Before Yugi knew it he was standing and ran out of the room. He ran down the halls and into the virtual arena. He was going to test it out for himself. Was it a bad idea? Most likely. Kaiba hadn’t seen his notes or changes. But Yugi couldn’t wait another minute, he wanted to see him so bad!

Arriving to the arena, Yugi threw on the clothes that Kaiba insisted he wear and grabbed the helmet that helped connect his brain to the virtual system. He walked into the room that would connect him to the virtual world and placed the helmet over his head.

Once the helmet was on it turned itself on and a voice spoke to Yugi. “Hello Mr. Muto.”

“Hello to you too.” Yugi greeted the computer voice.

“How may I assist you today?” The computer asked with a monotone voice.

Yugi couldn’t help the butterflies in his stomach as he grew closer to beginning his program. “I would like you to take a look at the new codes I have made and connect the wires to the helmet and my suit.”

The computer did not reply for a moment as it searched for the data that Yugi spoke of. “Oh my. There is no authorization code from Mr. Kaiba, I can not do what you have requested.”

Yugi rolled his eyes. “I know you can, I helped made you, I have the same authorization codes as Kaiba. So please activate the program.” His voice hinted some anger as he was getting tired of waiting.

“Mr. Kaiba-”

“I will deal with Kaiba myself. Just please, do this for me.” He clenched his hands into fists and felt the tears form in his eyes. “Please, I want to see him.”

With a sigh the computer did what Yugi requested. Some wires came out of the walls and connected to the helmet as well as to the suit, just above Yugi’s heart. “Systems are ready. Program is downloading, it is downloaded and installed. Ready Mr. Muto?”

Yugi nodded. “I’ve been ready for almost three years.”

“Virtual System activate. Activating program, Nameless Pharaoh.”

Yugi’s eyes were closed and they remained closed for some time, he heard the buzzing in his ears, he heard what sounded like a computer booting up. Before he even opened his eyes though, the smells came to him, the air was thick. He had been transported somewhere else and when he opened his eyes, he couldn’t help but gasp as his jaw hung open.

“I’m in Egypt!” He looked around and was stunned by all the sights. Sand beneath his feet and stone walls surrounded him. “Wow.” He was so amazed!

“The program worked. It worked better than I thought it would!”

“Aibou?” A baritone voice from behind spoke with confusion and Yugi’s heart welled up.

Yugi turned to face the owner of the voice and couldn’t help the tears that formed in his eyes. “Atemu, it’s..it’s really you!” There stood the Pharaoh Atemu. Dressed in his pharaoh garments, the purple cape was all that he was missing. But Yugi was not mistaken by who he was looking at.

“Yes Aibou, it’s me, but you-” Before Atemu could finish speaking, Yugi had ran to him, throwing his arms around his neck.

“I missed you so much Atemu! So much!” Yugi clung to Atemu as tight as he could, forgetting that virtual reality was not capable of something this real. He just cried into the ancient Pharaoh’s shoulder.

Atemu clung to Yugi as the tears formed in his eyes and he buried his face in Yugi’s neck. “I missed you too Aibou.”

“I wanted to see you.” Yugi sobbed. “So I built a code to help put reality and virtual reality together, using my emotions and memories. It was of course experimental, but it worked! It actually worked.” He felt Atemu cling to him even more and he did not even notice or care that no air escape his lungs. All that mattered to him was that he was hugging Atemu and seeing Atemu once more.

Atemu didn’t have the heart to tell his Aibou what had happened. At this moment he was just glad to see Yugi, to hold Yugi in his arms, and to be the first to greet him. He’d have to tell him later, but for now, he was just going to hold Yugi close to him, and enjoy their reunion.

No matter how it came to be.
