Okay so quick thing on Gendry—

There's not much immediate evidence for this. But given the way that Martin mixes and matches names, mangling consonants and vowels to create variations, and typically (though not consistently) isn't necessarily on the nose with his application of first names…

It is unlikely that the name "Gendry" is related to "gentry". Not impossible, but unlikely.

Especially when there's the name Hendry to think about, in Scots, which he (I do believe) draws a few other names from. And Hendry? Well. That's just the local version of Henry.

Henry the Smith, everyone.

If Gendry were to die in TWOW or ADOS, how would GRRM kill him off?

I personally think he will survive the series given the knowledge of his father being hidden from him means it will have a role to play in his story in my opinion.

Otherwise, theoretically he could die with a hammer in his hand, the way his father would have personally wanted. Either he is fighting against forces plaguing the smallfolk that are either the Lannisters or the Golden Company or he is at the Wall fighting the Long Night. He dies in battle the hero his father should have been with the last word on his lips being "Arya."

Arya: agonising. As in "getting tortured by the Mountain" but also "spending an hour listening to Sansa and Jeyne talking about stitching techniques"
