I just bit my pencil and broke the end of it—
(Vax is Home)
It felt like forever after they landed that Vax finally got rolled out on a gurney. The sight alone made Kerry’s stomach twist with guilt and anger. God knows what else they had done to him. All they were supposed to do was pull out the relic. Now they were here, watching Vax get loaded into a Trauma Team shuttle.
“Mr. Eurodyne? I have a few questions to ask you.” A head doctor who looked like her spine was a metal rod approached himself and Vik, as well as Ms. Welles.
“Yeah? Can it wait, I’d like to go with him.” He also really wasn’t in the mood to be talking to those Arasaka pricks.
“I’m afraid not. I understand you were the one to pay to get him down?” Kerry nodded, watching the Trauma Team wait. Fuck this was gonna take forever. He turned and waved for Judy to go ahead, apparently the whole gang needed to be here. She grabbed Panam’s hand and ran off to catch up to the shuttle, River coming up behind Kerry.
“May I ask your relations with my patient?” Kerry bit the inside of his cheek.
“Mainline.”
The doctor didn’t look convinced.
“Partner, companion, life partner, lover- Whatever the fuck you wanna call it. Is this necessary? Why would I pay that much to have some guy brought down?”
“Just a security precaution.” The doctor said calmly, as if sensing Kerry’s rising irritation. “Does he have a set caretaker?”
Vik opened his mouth, but Kerry beat him too it.
“Also me.”
“Really?” Vik asked, stunned by the fact that Kerry would still want to see V after everything.
“Yes me. He’s already had my undivided attention for the past six months- which is fucking ridiculous you kept him longer than you should have.”
“We just had to make sure-“
“I don’t want your fucking excuses. If my partner is as broken as he seems, I’m gonna make you wish you had given him back immediately. We done here?” No one argued.
“Good. Let’s go.”
The group headed back to their cars, Kerry offering River a ride back to the hospital where V was taken and hopefully put into the private room that had been set up for him. Private for him, but also Kerry. The media was already catching whiffs of his expenses and everything. But he was staying tight lipped. Vax’s business was no one else’s.
The ride to the hospital stretched, it was painful. Kerry was driving so you’d think it wouldn’t take as long as it was, but god he needed to be with V about 30 minutes ago.
Kerry was let into the back to avoid any camera’s, the last thing anyone needed was paparazzi in a hospital waiting room. It was exhausting, but worth it if it got him closer to V.
The room was white, only the faint sound of the TV and the beeps of V’s heart monitor filled the room. Judy was right next to Vax, Panam leaving against the window, watching over the two.
The sight of V after a year of not seeing or hearing from him made his heart tug. This whole time, Kerry had been angry, livid V had the audacity to leave him like that. Only to get him returned like this.
Even sleeping, he didn’t look at peace. His face was relaxed, but he looked like he hadn’t slept peacefully in a while. Isolation did that to people.
Kerry went to his side, looking over him. He was home. That’s all that mattered now. No one would hurt him as long as Kerry was here (like he could do much).
He ran his fingers through V’s hair, cut shorter properly for tests. Was he always a natural blonde? He assumed there was no red hair dye in space. Maybe they’d find a new shade of red for him. Or maybe a new color entirely. Whatever he wanted.
V’s head twitched, as if trying to show he could feel Kerry touching him. He was getting more and more hopeful.
“His hands are cold.” Judy said softly, looking up at him. He appreciated her, treating him like he was normal. Like he was just V’s concerned partner in need of finding him.
“We’ll get him warmed up.” Kerry said softly, pulling up a chair for himself. Vik and Ms. Welles were talking to doctors, and would be in shortly to see their son. But for now, it was four people who thought they lost V forever.

His eyes scanned the room, a brow raising in confusion at the milk cartons on the floor. Was there some kind of secret milk stash in this room? Who would hoard milk? Whatever. He was here for clothes. Clothes were in the closet. -Five Hargreeves, sick from too much ibuprofen, wondering why the hell milk is everywhere
