hysto pre-op anesthesia appointment today
A ridiculously tall, older, teddy bear looking gentleman greets me with a professional, yet somehow tender, smile. I take a seat in his office. He compliments my beard and picks up the phone. A small and gentle voice answers. He calls her “my honey, my heart, my love” and then says, “Our patient for the 30th, ignore the chart. We’ll be using he/him pronouns, ok? Thanks, sweetheart.” He hangs up. Leans forward across his desk. We lock eyes. He says calmly but firmly, “I’m Gay. My nurse is a Lesbian. You’re in good hands. We take care of Family here.”
Community is strength, ya’ll. Being seen is powerful.
