// chapter 1173 one piece spoilers
So we really are getting a second backstory for Brook. It is very needed, that man is the oldest in the crew and is way too skilled to not have a childhood that is interesting.
I also remember seeing somewhere that it was mentioned Brook has been a guard(??) for a royal family before he became a pirate. So I already had thoughts about Shuri being a princess.
I did not expect Shuri apparently killing her father (which definitely under Imu's control), and Brook choosing to avoid and erase every trace of her in his mind because of it.
If the king that Brook owed his everything to was Shuri's father, and we saw him playing wth Shuri in a small memory, I would imagine that it took a long time for Brook to process the fact that Shuri had done that.
I do want to point that that this creates a really interesting parallel between Loki and Gunko ( if the theory of her being under Imu's control in her act of patricide is true)
Both lost their father, having to kill them with their own hands, with Imu's control being responsible for the act. The truth is kept a secret for a long time, and they both lose the trust and love of the people around them, forcing them into isolation.
Gunko might get along with Loki, if she ever escapes the control of Imu.
I am curious about what her actual personality was like, before that hole incident happened.
Apparently this is the first time EVER that Sanji uses the term "Nami-swan" in the manga! 🦢
If you weren't aware, Sanji's VA Hiroaki Hirata chose on his own to add the cute little spin on the san suffix. He does the same with Robin and says "Robin-chwan". He's said "Vivi-chwan" before too if I remember. Both inflections of these suffixes give a more melodic tone that pairs well with Sanji's exaggerated simping & has become a staple to the character over the years.
It seems Hirata-san's efforts have paid off & this little trait has been offically canonized in the manga by Oda himself. Good for him! 💕
btw, this panel along w/last chapter's cover art have reignited optwt's theory of Imu being an Okama that looks like Nami & honestly? As far as crazy theories go, this is one of my favorites. Maybe I'll do a post on it later? 🤔
id: manga panel from one piece of brook yelling to gunko/imu in gunko's body, "i had hoped i'd go the rest of my life...without ever having to think about you again. i owed everything to the man whose life you took... my patricidal princess..." end id
"patricidal princess" is such a banger fucking nickname HELLO ... idc what the circumstances were im glad gunko killed that guy* . i love a girl who kills their father i love a patricidal princess
Scientists: Worms are invertebrates; they don't have bones.
Brook, this chapter: I am all bones, actually?
Okay, so, the newest chapter told us a lot and gave us more questions. First Gunko/Shuri killed a man (her father, apparently) who Brook "owed everything to." At this point, it would be easy to assume that she did it under Imu's influence, but something in chapter 1149 makes me wonder if it's not the case:
To me it looks like she's crying out as her father's being attacked, but of course, it's also possible that this is her after regaining control. Also, it's clear that Gunko's, or should I say Shuri's, memories of Brook and her past in general aren't fully there. But how? Is that another power of Imu's, or of someone else working for him? Or did she lose her memories on accident, perhaps from the trauma?
Either way, since she's helping Brook, there's definitely more to their shared past than the musician knows of.
Her spirit of self-sacrifice remains alive
brook backstory oh my god its happening!!!!!!!
