Tagged by @opalxempress, thanks for giving me an excuse to post a try of writing! I’ve been working on a little fic about Airistan between chapters 1 and 2, and before further reading, warnings: author being an idiot, writing being bad, no context (bc it's already a lot more than just six sentences).
Airistan made a mocking laugh. "You sounded like one of these lectures from the Council. I am a soldier. Without war, I have nothing else to do."
"Rude." It might have seemed that Kira was a bit hurt, but the laughable notes in her voice made it clear that the former Padawan was not offended. Ris was grateful that Kira could get her sense of humor. "Look, I can understand your frustration. But they're right about one thing: sometimes, Jedi need to do something other than fight the Sith."
With a heavy sigh, Ris shook her head a little and went back to preparing the report. Kira understood her better than many others, but still couldn't see the point. She never wanted to be a Jedi in the first place.
Tagging (if you guys are up for it): @a-muirehen, @vespertine-legacy, @resol-nare.
I should’ve tagged some characters in that post, I guess, because every time I’m offered to choose an OC, there are only two options: to pick new ones (bc people might get tired of me choosing the same toons every time), but it doesn’t make much sense, coz no one knows them, or to pick the ones I cried about 100 times already. I still need to choose, though, so hello OCs I hyperfixate on, my old friends. And thanks for the ask!
7. Are they loyal to their faction?
Airistan is loyal to the Republic, not the Jedi. She was in the Order for a variety of reasons, of course, but one and significant enough of them was the desire to serve the Republic in the best way possible. After all, she was given the rank of general, not Jedi Master, and I think that says a lot.
In Jett’s case, it’s hard enough to tell which faction she belongs to. For me personally, it’s Mandalorians, and yes, she’s loyal to them (as long as that loyalty does not endanger her crew, which didn’t seem to happen). If we’re talking about the Empire and the Republic, then she has no loyalty to the Empire. Yes, she happens to work for them a lot, but that won’t stop her from shooting some Imps who got in her way (*cough*Tormen*cough*).
8. How do they feel about the opposite faction?
This one goes for Airistan only (what is Jett’s opposite faction? The Republic?). Ris is used to hate Imps. For her, the fact that the Empire tried to either conquer or destroy her home is reason enough to hate them. And she despises much of what the Sith do (slavery, xenophobia, backstabbing, manipulation, etc). Yet she admits that the Republic lacks the discipline, order, determination and power that the Sith Empire has.
9. How do they feel about the Force and the orders that use it?
Oh, and this one goes for Jett only. Jett isn’t that much bothered by the Force itself as by those who use it. After several attempts to explore the Force with the help of Jedi archives, Sith texts and galactic history books, she gave up, deciding that it would not be possible to truly understand the Force without being a Force-sensitive, but that wasn’t her priority anyway. Jedi, in her opinion, instead of reaching their full potential, are too fixated on helping others. No, she does not consider the very fact of helping something bad, but what is the point of sacrificing your own power for the well-being of a bunch of strangers? And they’re also hypocrites. Sith are obsessed with their egos so much that it’s easy to manipulate them with it. And in addition, slavery, xenophobia, betrayal, etc., are common among them, and she does not approve.
10. What is their specialization class? Was there a reason they picked that discipline?
Airistan is Vigilance Guardian. Guardian is because of the one lightsaber wielding (I don’t think that after of few moths of training she would handle two lightsabers, but she was pretty good with one vibroblade before getting in the Order). Not tank because in combat, she seeks the total destruction of the enemy, not the protection of others. And Vigilance because of Shien form.
Jett is Arsenal Mercenary. Merc is because “what’s better than one blaster? Two blasters!”, and Arsenal bc of rockets! More rockets (though I could’ve choose IO just for this one flamethrower-ish ability, bc I want mercs to use their flamethrower).
You knew how to pick tough asks for me, didn’t you? But honestly, thank you so much! I really need a challenge. Also I always end up crying talking about Raen and Jett, and I’m gonna do it again (bc i like to suffer).
❤️ What would your OC’s ideal lover be like? Appearance, personality, voice? Would their family approve or would it be civil war?
Raen, of course, told everyone that her ideal lover would be someone illegally attractive, charming, witty, with money, someone who would understand her jokes, would be equal to her in flying, sabacc, heroics, getting into and out of trouble with humor and style. That they would be tall, muscular, with deep rough voice, perhaps with a couple of sexy scars (no matter where), near-human race (because I don’t think she would date Rodian or Dug), and gender wouldn’t matter. In her stories, they would constantly compete in a friendly manner, trying to prove their superiority, and then everything would end with a romantic night together. But in fact, she has no idea of the perfect lover. She believes that it would be enough for her to have someone who cared about her and was able to keep her away from stupid ideas that could go too far, while not being a jerk themselves. As for the family’s approval, from what Raen says, her parents definitely would not have judged her (they are the smugglers themselves, and Raen’s personality took after them). If her sister had heard such a description of an ideal partner, Shailla (JC) would have hardly approved, but would not have interfered and certainly not started a civil war (she is too sweet bun for that).
👀 Describe your OC through the eyes of another person! (bonus + specify who)
It’s funny how her first impression of Jett was quite different: oh boy, another mercenary working alone, killing people for money and not caring about anything else. Is she really the best Braden could find? And when the huntress was very reluctant to take her on the Great Hunt, that impression only took root. But over time, noticing how Jett didn’t kill those who didn’t deserve it or just had the misfortune to get in the way, how she gave up the reward if it was against her principles (and, honestly, the very fact that she has principles), she began to realize that the huntress is not as simple as she tries to seem at first sight. After she promised to win the Great Hunt for Braden, after she helped her with finding her family, after she agreed to help Anuli get off Nar Shadaa, after she helped to deal with Coral, after all she did for the others, after all that Jett has changed in her eyes. She was anything but another mercenary, working alone, killing people for money and not caring about anything else. Despite the rage she often showed, the cruelty with which she dealt with the most vicious enemies, the rudeness she used to keep people away, despite all the flaws that could push many others away from her, Jett was brave, cheerful, professional, persistent, merciful, faithful, ready to face death for the sake of the people she loved.
They’ve been through a lot together. They supported each other in hard times, shared with each other the happiness of the best moments. They helped each other to let go of the past, at least in part, and to grow above themselves. But more than that, Jett wasn’t just her best friend, she became like a sister. And when she overheard Jett admitting that Mako was like her sister too, a smile wouldn’t leave her face for the rest of the day.
Yay, other Outer Worlds fans!!! Can I ask #6 and #10 for Will Hawthorne?
Yay indeed! Welcome to the party 🥳💙 And @the-laridian had the same questions, so you two get to share the reply.
Did they have any family before becoming Captain? Do they think their crew as family?
She did! Will was born into a large family. Not unlike in Halcyon, there was a strong social norm against sticking around once you were old enough to live and work independently. The same went for staying in the same place for long. Space, food, and work were far from abundant, so you went wherever you could find them as soon as the option was available to you.
Although many people maintained close family bonds in spite of this, Will wasn't one of them. By the time she left for Halcyon, she had been out of touch with her relatives for upwards of seven years.
But, yes! Will did come to see her crew as a family, and cared deeply about Nyoka, Parvati, and Felix. After the end of the Hope mission, she struggled with their departure, even though she wanted each of them to have the lives that they were obviously meant for. Time heals all wounds, though, and Will is good at packing relationships away in boxes when people leave her life — and then unpacking them if/when those people return.
What’s their favourite place in Halcyon? Least favourite?
Will's favorite place in Halcyon is the galley of the Unreliable when one or more members of the crew are there. Also, perhaps, the wilds of Terra 2; plenty of space to roam, and an off-brand taste of the kind of nature she dreamed of experiencing on earth. Meanwhile, she was very happy to leave Monarch behind; not a lot of positive memories there for her.
You know who I haven't rattled on about near enough? Rom. So, let's fix that.
8. Do complex puzzles intrigue or frustrate them?
Rom loves puzzles--a trait which definitely made him stand out during his time as a raider. He was nicknamed 'Smartypants' (usually derogatory) for a reason. If one isn't present, Rom will create a puzzle to solve.
13. Name one thing their parents taught them.
Diligence. Very much that mindset of "if you are going to get anywhere in life, you have to work for it." Never settle for anything; always continue working up and up.
29. What recurring dreams do they have?
Rom consistently has nightmares, when he isn't under the influence of Med-X, and the one that often strikes is the vivid image of Oswald succumbing to the Affliction. Typically, he's crying--mourning Rachel and their friends all over--and apologizing repeatedly.
