New YOI Creator Spotlight #1: opemjamjar!
I’m kicking this rec fest off with the creator who partly inspired me to begin this series: @opemjamjar.
They first began showing up in fandom spaces in December of last year, and recently they’ve published some fics which are not just beautifully-worded and felt, but accompanied by illustrations they make themselves! I’m forever jealous of the multi-talented.
I’m specifically recommending OJJ’s most recent fic The Wisdom of Deserts. This short, sweet fic about pre-wedding jitters hurts so good!
My favorite thing about this story is the imagery. The descriptive prose in this story is absolutely gorgeous, and I’m definitely hungry for more of this:
He wrung his wrists and shook his hands. The sight before him went on like a panorama, a magnificent glory to behold. The earthy browns and reds were a stark contrast to the colour palette of his life- the various aquamarine blues of the ice and the bright whites of the lights that haloed him wherever he went.
It moved something deep within his core and he felt his breathing becoming as unsteady as the heights made him feel. Although, the last time he had done this, he had been heading towards the man that had changed his life forever.
