Don’t count on the FCC or Congress to protect Net Neutrality: Contact your state legislators now!

The Trump administration’s FCC is likely to repeal net neutrality regulations, no matter how much we protest.  The FCC isn’t elected and doesn’t feel a lot of incentive to listen to us, and Congress has no chance of reinstating net neutrality on their own.  The good news is that internet service providers are still required to follow state law.  You can find the contact information for your state representative and state senator at:

Call them now!  Tell your state legislators to implement net neutrality rules at the state level.  There’s still a chance to save net neutrality at the state level without help from the federal government!

OpenStates Hackathon

The OpenStates / GASP hackathon here at PyCon is going killer. We've got a bunch of brandy-new contributors hacking away, and sending in pull requests. We're squashing bugs like crazy, and it's going super well.

npr's site is using some OpenStates data, the project I'm currently working on at sunlight labs.

Two for one: Two smallish hacks this week!

I've whipped up two libs this week, and both have some pretty radical uses. The fist is python-charlie, which can be found on github, which is named in honor of Charlie on the MTA.

This lib will fetch data on the Boston MBTA T (rather, just the Red, Orange and Blue lines), which can actually be super useful in a lot of ways.

I'd love to see some hacks with this data!

The second is php-openstates, a PHP binding into the openstates API. It comes with a nifty little util to get some bill listings, but hopefully, this will mature as teh project grows.

Fork the project on github. Rock on.
