Francesca Zambello
Opera director Francesca Zambello was born in New York City in 1956. Zambello is artistic director of the Washington National Opera, a position she has held since 2013. She has worked at more than 50 opera houses around the world, including the Metropolitan Opera, La Scala, and Covent Garden. Zambello has received many awards and honors, including the San Francisco Opera Medal from the San Francisco Opera and a Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres from the French government. In 2025, she was chosen for induction into the Opera Hall of Fame.
