I used to be in love, but I replaced it with success ~ "6 million haters on my grind all the time, 6 billion dimes on my mind all the time, 6 ways to die but we only choose one" My good friend Frank brought me to studio recently for Freestyles Friday. Freestyle Friday is something that he does regularly and has been doing so by keeping up the tradition of recording music with absolutely no preparation and completely unscripted lyrics. 22weeks straight. No pen and notepads allowed. We find a instrumental we like and improvise from there. As an artist, musician, and someone who's constantly trying to grow as a writer, this is an excellent and very healthy exercise to go through and experience. This helps your confidence and just being able to draw from your creativity at anytime without having to sit down and give it much thought. But just like any workout, you start off small and then you grow. The first few ideas may seem simple but within time these ideas get more complex and it becomes basically like speaking a cohesive thought over a drum rhythm. Before I ever became a hip-hop artist who wrote lyrics, I freestyle quite a bit with my friends so I'm rather experienced with improvising lyrics on the spot. A lot of times of I show up at the studio and I have a "master plan & blueprint" that I have to follow. But it's not always a good idea to be confined to a single mindset, especially with art. It's good to breath and drift from the scripted and this is one of the ways I have been doing so lately. REMEMBER. Rebel the normal. This is the hook I came up with. Had to document this moment.
