Ok so the metamorphosis was written to convey Kafkas own disconnection from himself and his identity. I’ll try not to add any major spoilers cuz I think ur gonna read it so here we go😼 ok so he’s unknowingly and unexplainably transformed, he’s immediately turned away and isolated despite it being completely out of his control and he’s treated like a monster. Every single day since his transformation he’s forced to come to terms with new aspects of himself and his new life. His whole life beforehand he’d spent providing for his family, slaving away at an unfulfilling job to try and give them what he thought they deserved, only to be immediately discarded once he’s any sort of burden to anyone else. They never even try to figure out what happened to him they just immediately lock him up to go crazy in the confines of his room. As the book progresses he never once feels resentment towards his family for his treatment, only towards himself for his new form. Thinking of himself as some other being entirely as if his mind is now completely separate from his body and he doesn’t belong to himself. He thinks of himself as monstrous and undeserving even tho all he’s ever done is give and give and give to everyone else. Even after his initial transformation his major worry was his mother and being late to work. The ending makes me cry. He’s so me. I have reread this book 100036382937636384 times please read it
