honestly Im pretty sure that Ilya was Shane’s gay awakening and just realization of being gay. I can understand why it would be Ilya but I have a feeling that Shane knows he’s pretty much gay. he thinks about how much of a work and energy it is for him to go down on women. he’s very much disinterested. he’ll do it because it’s gentlemanly to reciprocate but he doesn’t enjoy it (at least has manners) and it’s been thought of how no one makes him feel like Ilya. I truly do think Ilya was Shane’s gay awakening. this man came up to Ilya and was like “hi I’m so glad we can fucking meet. I think you’re such an awesome player! you’re just really good at hockey! EXCEPTIONALLY GOOD” and when Ilya would say short answers (let the man translate) Shane was still thinking of shit to say. “oh wow it’s cold here in December, are your parents here???” idc, yall can go argue with me to hell and back but Ilya Rozanov was 100% Shane’s not only gay awakening but realization that yeah, women are nice to talk to but I’m very gay! that checks out.
