I was most disturbed to walk past this dumpster, not at one but two @vinniesshops Dumpsters full of clothing and items that could be reused or turned into cloths. So of course a little research into the act. Australians consume double the global average of textiles at 27kg per person. 95% of these textiles end up in landfill and are reusable. A YouGov report showed that Millennials enjoy buying new clothes, with almost one in four saying they had purchased at least half the clothes they own in the past year. They are also more likely to throw out their clothes within two years. Op shops are overwhelmed with donations and throw away up to 25% of the donations. If there is any mark or problem with it, it just goes straight into their landfill pile. Solutions: 1. Op shops reassess environmental ethics that not only cares for people but the earth. Make a “free” bin and sell cheaper clothes and items. 2. Millennials, get your act together! Say no to fast fashion.
