Since it’s almost Halloween a review on a very cool comics collection – “Fables from Ryleyeva 72” (“Байки с Рылеева 72”) by @optimisster and OptiTeam and yes, it’s the second part of “Fables from Ryleyeva 71” and it’s again amazing! It’s a huge collection: eighteen stories – including the big story uniting all the others, 35 authors (artists, writers, colourists) from different cities and even countries.
To begin with, the main uniting story “Sleep Paralysis” by @optimisster, @oduvanchik237 , Olezha , Veron and @unclewinds about children in the hospital is very cool and creepy, because it’s the most realistic because the sleep paralysis is real and the symptoms are real and if you think of it too much you’ll be definitely afraid to fall asleep.
The story I enjoyed the most was “Vampire” by again Optimisster and Oduvanchik because firstly – wow, Optimisster writes poetry?! Secondly, come on – vampires aesthetics, how could I have stand indifferent?
The honorary title of the scariest story by the plot is divided between “Blood, Friendship, Bubblegum” by Animaniac and @alexandrarice113 – which also seems very realistic and not just scary but dramatic and “They Don’t Forget” by Dmitry Bogdan (by the way – there is a mistake in the book – instead of his contacts there are Vitalina_vu’s contacts) and Martzepanka which could have been the creepiest “King and Jester” song – because it has the backwoods county side mystics, disbelievers and a very unexpected ending (maybe a spoiler!) – hello “Men were Eating Meat” («Ели мясо мужики»).
The most frightening (I’m running out of epithets) by its art-style is undoubted “Potato” by Optimisster and @varasabi . It’s so terrifying thanks to Varasabi’s experiments with techniques – previous time she used clay in her work to make it look more real and prominent and this time she used real photos of potato skin for the main character’s skin and detailed photos of people to grab readers’ attention.
In conclusion, I wanted to say about the book in general that it was very interesting to read, not only thanks to the great plots but also because of details and references in a lot of shots(?) there are either inscriptions and paintings on a fence, either posters or just lying here and there magazines and VHSs. What was the most exciting – references in a yellow newspaper to the first part. So – a wonderful work of so many people, I'm already waiting for the next part.
P.S. The only person who has her Tumblr account as contact is @kerkikerk - the artist of “Your Dream Horror” because nobody wants others to know that they are on this hellsite.
